I have always had difficulty tuning my 8 string C6 neck. Almost need a wrench to tighten them to tune. I measured the bridge to nut and it comes up as 25".
The gauges are from 10 to 52. If the neck is more usually at 24" does it follow then that I should use a lighter set to make it easier to turn the machine heads??

A good source of information on scale lengths and string gauges is John Ely's site:

Wish I knew what scale John Ely's guitar was.
I'm looking for the guages to restring my 24 1/2" scale Stringmaster to B6th. Thought an E9th chromatic set would work, discarding two strings, but the tension is too stiff. Have to tune it down to A6th, which throws a monkey wrench into the works...Jerry
