I just won this on ebay. Just bid on it on a lark, thought for sure I would be outbid. comes with the amp too. looks like pre-war, around '39 I guess. I build amps and do some repair, so the amp is no problem. I'm kinda dumbfounded. Am I missing something or is this an awesome deal? I've heard a little about the model 59, but does anyone else wanna chime in about it's strenths and weaknesses? Are the 59's pickup the same as in the bakelite b's and silver hawiians? I know the pickup is non adjustable, but is there anything else I should know about these geetars?

Seems like a really good deal to me. you got both for 363? I think the 59 was considered a student model, but it has that 1 1/2 incher.I really like mine.
Nice score.

Yeah, both for 363. I bid on stuff like this all the time, but always get outbid. Guess it's my lucky day, for once. How does yours compare to a bakelite b? I know what those sound like. It matches in color to my 1999 national polychrome tricone exactly. any pitfalls or issues I should look out for? thanks in advance.

It's one thing to talk about it.
It's quite another to get to see it.
How about some show & tell?

I picked up this Model 59 a few years back. I walked into my local guitar store for strings and heard someone playing a beautiful sounding lap steel. the Rick just came in and a price tag was just attached. 595$. I always wanted a lap with a horse shoe magnet and snatched it right up. I love tha baleanced sound on this steel.
the one knob it has, volume, is a bit scratchy. I haven't looked inside for the newspaper filling. I was told this is a 36.
wow, you have a great deal on yours.

I got one just like it with both knobs on the outside. Mine sounds great. The thing screams too. These metal body steels have their own sound. I don't know how to describe it. But I like it! My tuning buttons were wasted like yours. I just took the machines off the guitar, cut off the old buttons with some dykes, and heated up the posts with a butane torch and pressed on the new buttons. I got them from allparts. There may be better places to get them though. All in all, a great steel and a great deal.
