I recently bought forum member Roy Thomson's "14 Hank Style Solos for c6 six string" tabs and cd set.

I just wanted to say how happy I am with it. This is some really great stuff for relative newbies like myself who are trying to really learn the old Vintage Country steel styles.

Before this I worked through Don Helm's "Your Cheating Heart" book (E13 tuning..it's available here from the forum..)
While I really, really like Don Helm's book, and learned a lot, I must say I enjoy Roys' take on these songs just as much.
The "Cheating Heart" tabs seem to be the late, great Don Helm's updated and polished versions of these great old songs, while Roy's versions seem more in line with the original Hank Williams recordings (not in tuning, but more importantly, in feel and style!)

Anyway, I just wanted to let any other newcomers (Or anyone wanting to learn the vintage country style) that Roy Thompson's material is really a great learning resource.

And I apologize to Roy if this post embarrasses him (He seems a modest fellow).

Thanks very much John. I am pleased to hear you
are doing fine with the Hank Williams Course.
I put a lot of time on it but enjoyed every minute.
I invite others to contact me as it is still
available.

I am glad to read a post from someone who has bought this tab from Roy.
I have also purchased "Your Cheatin Heart" by Don Helms, and I loved it. I soon learned all ten songs and still play them every day. In spite of that, the songs are tabed in a very high octave, which might be suitable for a loud honkey tonk, but are a bit to high pitched for my living room.I have transposed some of them to a lower key, but I think the C6 tuning is the way to go. There is a lot more material available in C6.
I bought Roy Thompsons book of E6 tabs and What a beautiful arrangement of " I Love You So Much", is included.
I will be contacting Roy soon to order his Hank Williams C6 Tabs.

Roy is an exellent player and I hope to learn from his material. Do not have enough time to practice with grand kids and their ball games and all but keep plugging away. Thank you roy

Hi Sonny,

Sorry to hear of your problem with playing my
MP3 clips.
I am no expert but would suggest that you review
the settings on your Default Player that plays
your music files. Go to Tools, Settings, File
types and put the tick marks in the boxes.
Clic OK.

If that does not work email me direct
roythomson at eastlink dot ca
and I will send this MP3 or any that you may wish.

Thanks for your interest.

Roy
