Hi Wiz-I have a HP PHoto Smart C 4240 all in one. It will print test and the Forum Logo, etc, but will not print the data or message.I have checked 2 USB Cords to see if the computer was communicating with the printer. It seems like either the PC is not sending data over to the printer or the printer is not receiving it....?????...Thanks for any ideas....al.

Al;
Are you saying that when you click on a Print button on the browser that only our SGF logo is printed? That is very odd!
Try opening a text document of some kind, like a .ini file, and see if the text prints out.
What browser brand and version are you using when this happens? What operating system and service pack? Does the ink cartridge have ink in it?

Hi Wiz-Thank for the quick reply, didnt expect it tonight. No, I hve windows XP, inter net explorer, outlook express 6.
Wiz it prints ok, on the whole page , EXCEPT the data , words typed message.It also prints a test page when I tried that. But email or anything I type does not print. Weird is right.
on another note ---
I bought this last summer when the other printer said "Paper Jam "and wouldnt print till I was supposed to clear the jam, well I cleared the jam ,checked out for any bits of paper, all clear then tried again and stopped again and said "Paper Jam.,tried several times, so I put it in the garage and bought this one, a HP C4240 all in one....thanks again...al.

If you are reading a topic on this forum and hit Print, does the entire page(s) print out correctly, text and graphics?
If you are typing a reply and try to print it out does it fail to print your text? Is that the nature of the problem?

Hi Wiz-thanks for your reply. on the first question, NO not the text.
on the second, NO text, or reply will print.
I am wondering if my Second USB cord is defective as the information that I want to print maybe is not getting to the printer. I just tried the scanner and it seemed to take it, but wont print , said USB not connected.....thanks ..al

Hi Wiz-Thanks again. I tried different ports so it must be the cable I bought as a spare. You'd think they would guarantee these things will work. I dont remember where I bought and dont have the credit slip to prove it. Oh well, thanks for taking the time to help me out...al.

Let me know if replacing the cable fixes the problem, or not. It may end up being a browser setting that got munged somehow. Or, a badly installed print driver file (search for an updated driver at HP.com).

Hi Wiz-I checked for drivers update with HP online d and it said I am all set there.
Funny thing, I bought this for $88. last summer and a week later that model was on sale for $59. And NOW they dont even sell that model anymore. Now they got Wireless ones. I suppose those dont need USB cable. But I wonder if they are as accurate as cableed.
If I find the credit slip, I'll bring it back to where I got it and see what happens. It printed good for the past few months. Maybe they will give me credit on another one.I'll let you know what the proble was, if I ever find out..thanks again, take care.....al.

Wiz-After trying everything else, I found the manual and disc for the printer, looked in about 21 drawers of my music stuff, and RE-INstalled the Software and lo and behold, problem solved.!! Everything ok and communicating with the computer again. Thanks for your help....al.
