JERRY BYRD is playing his heart out for all of his long-time fans and friends. Jerry can be heard by tuning in the Jerry Byrd Fan Club. By going to Google, you can then take the direct link to the fan club. You won't be sorry that you did.

If you haven't been there, drop in and give it a listen. If you have been a lurker, be sure to notify a friend and have them visit the site as well. Good listening to you!

Brad, "Carefree" is coming up as 68.8mb ?
On Broadband it would take about 12 minutes to download ready to play. This can't be right ! and would over half an hour long.

Thanks for pointing this bad link out, Basil. I've changed the link to point to a valid MP3 file.

Thanks Brad, well worth the update. Superb.

I wonder is Ray Montee following the same diktat that the SteelRadio.com site is . i.e.

Quote:
Jerry gave us permission to air ANY music he is playing on with one condition - it not be altered in ANY way. That includes adjusting sound levels.

Why would Jerry Byrd imitate Little Roy Wiggens? Sorry, I'm just not convinced that is Jerry.

Doesn't sound like Jerry to me either, except the later run.

But even then, the guitar sounds sort of dull or muted in comparison to Jerry's sound. Some notes were ended abruptly too, which isn't Jerry's playing at all. When you compare it to "Carefree" there isn't much question about the sustain difference, even though "chained to a memory " is quite an old recording.

Just my .000000002

What is this diktat that your refer to Basil?

I'm too short I guess as it went right over my head.........

And Wayne: WHO is "imitating" WHO? That recording is at a time when both Roy Wiggins and Jerry Byrd WERE playing with George Morgan. It's clearly two different players and they are named above.

JERRY was doing a tremendous job at trying to stay in the main stream in those days............and I think his "pedal style sounds" were a great effort in an attempt to make everyone happy. I believe the guitar being used was the stand-alone Rick single neck that he was using at the time on local radio, television and recording sessions.

On the Jerry's Music page, it says:
Quote:

"Chained to the Memories of You"
George Morgan, Vocal
Jerry Byrd and Roy Wiggins
on the Steel Guitars

I can't see how it went over your head, the words IMMEDIATELY after "dictat" finish the statement .. Like this:-

"diktat that the SteelRadio.com site is . i.e.

Quote:
Jerry gave us permission to air ANY music he is playing on with one condition - it not be altered in ANY way. That includes adjusting sound levels.

See this
http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=100148&start=0

The DICTAT by Jerry being "it not be altered in ANY way. That includes adjusting sound levels"
apparently, and I say apparently, Jerry preferred his recordings not to be altered in ANY way either Eq or level, and he instructed SteelRadio.com that he would only give his permission to play his tracks if they followed his expressed wishes. (That being a "Dictat")
Not wishing to criticise you in ANY way Ray. What you're doing is admirable and ESSENTIAL for newbies to become familiar with the Superb Stylings of Jerry Byrd.

What I was eluding to was the discrepancy between what you (As a close friend of Jerry's) obviously had had Jerry's permission to do, and the feeble way the SteelRadio.com PART OF THE FORUM use Jerry Byrd as an excuse for their varying levels of tracks played.
Can YOU believe that he made that stipulation ?

Basil, your complaints about the SteelRadio.com site's differing volume levels doesn't really have any relevance to this discussion about Ray Montee's site and its Jerry Byrd audio files. As far as I know, Ray has no connection with SteelRadio.com.

Please try to keep your comments relevant to the discussion at hand. Criticizing another site's use of Jerry Byrd material doesn't make much sense over here.

Withdrawn.
Except to observe that SteelRadio.com is part of the forum's site and not ANOTHER site per se.

I think we can argue whether or not the jbfc site is the greatest artist site on the web..... but it sure is my favorite!

That recording of Jerry playing "Carefree" has always touched my heart. Thank you Ray for posting it. Just curious...is the composition an Andy Aiona original? Or was he just the first to record it?

Such a pity these older posts get their relevance altered by deletion of the files referred to !

I seems to negate the very concept of archiving them ..
OR using the search tool for gleaning information..

Confused I think I would go with dictate instead of dictat. How many people use the word dictat in the US? Please, no backfeed or arguments. We all know that the two words are relatively similar.
