Most of us will answer in much the same way. I pray for the souls of the victims, that they find peace. I pray for their families and loved ones, that their sorrow be felt by the entire world. I pray for those involved in the rescue effort, that they be kept safe. I pray for our country and our way of life. I pray for our leaders, that they set aside their differences and work with a common determination to rebuild. I pray for the president, that he be wise and strong in his retaliation. We all pray for the same things, people and ideals.
May I suggest that we also pray for those responsible. As hard as it might be to do that, it may be the single most powerful way to punish them. The American people are not going to convince them they did a terrible thing. Western society in general is not going to bring about a change in their beliefs. But think about it, God, whom they claim to be working for, could.
So, again I suggest that we pray for the perpetraitors. That they be granted an awakening of sorts, an epiphany. Let them realize the enormity of their acts, let them feel the crushing guilt of the sorrow and suffering they have caused. Let them come forward and accept their role and do the right thing.
What is the right thing you ask? That's easy. Point the finger in the right direction and let us take it from there. |

Your words are very true and in accordance with Jesus prayer to: "Forgive them Lord for they know not what they do".
I respectfully add to your prayer: "Forgive me Lord for my unforgiving heart, for I am unable as yet to forgive those who are responsible for this terrible deed". |

BDBassett,
I agree as to your prayer! That is mine also. I do believe in Almighty God, Jesus, Holy Spirit AND THE WORD.I am in prayer for most of those mentioned. However my prayer for the perpetrator is that they are quickly found! Quickly tried! Quickly executed! Forget the quickly tried. In watching the TV and seeing all of the kids cheering because of what happened I'm not sure that we shouldn't wipe out the entire country. They will grow to be as big or bigger threat as the terrorists of today! I have to say "Do Unto Others Befor They Do It To You!
regards fred

I pray that whatever response we have in store for them, that the results don't make things even worse.
There are still plenty of innocents involved, both here and in the Middle East.
May God grant wisdom to all those involved in making the decisions that will affect us all.

Let's just say that what I posted here is how I truly feel.
The other post I found funny -- though I am in no way advocating the steps that would lead to such an event.
I guess stress leads to a warped sense of humor, among other things. And anger.
The other post will be deleted.
Thanks. I needed that.

..that's OK...I can relate to stress, and anger over what has happened to us...and I have even been accused of having a warped sense of humor..go figure...
...I pray that we do the right thing and do it with an appropriate sense of necessity rather than bloodlust..the veneer of civilization is thin, it doesn't take much or very long for it to peel away and reveal what's really in each of us...
...if you want to pray, pray for our soldiers to do what they are going to have to do and to be able to live with it afterwards... |

What do I pray for? I pray for the end of ALL organized religion. When men follow religious doctrines blindly and ignore their innate sense of right and wrong we end up with MANIACS like those we are about to go to war with. |

Every night when my 8 year old goes to bed, we say a prayer. Our prayer ends with "...God bless everyone". We truly mean this. Even the people who wreak this kind of havoc on the rest of the world. God will ultimately deal with these people, but in the meantime, they spread their love for death and destruction upon the rest of the world. I believe God wants the world to straighten out their mess. I can no longer let the prospect of innocent people in the other countries losing their lives blind me as to what needs to be done. After all, there are NO innocent people in the eyes of the terrorists, as they prove time and time again. I believe that innocent people die in these attacks because they believe and support our government and way of life. The terrorists and the nations that support them believe we are one entity that needs to be destroyed.
Sorry to ramble. In answer to the question: EVERYONE[This message was edited by Richard Sinkler on 16 September 2001 at 08:33 AM.] |
