Hello David,
That is a very attractive looking Sierra Lap Top Guitar.
Are there any plans in the future for a 10 string lap top guitar?

I'd be interested to know (maybe others would too ) - what does the 5 position switch do exactly? coil tap? series/parallel? what else? how does the pickup itself differ from the current/previous one?
Also, I assume the switch is the thing on the metal plate on the player's side of the guitar - it looks from the photo like it might be easy to hit accidentally with the heel of the right hand... any comments from anybody who's played one?

The outer parts of the Lap-Top are made of a OTechnically Enhanced¹ board
resulting in a very consistent high density broad that we machine at our
Portland factory. This board is also used in some piano sounding boards and
high end sound cabinets.
The OHigh Gloss² black and the ³Cherry Woodgrain² finish is done by an
Oregon finishing company.
The 5 tone pick up is wound such that, coupled with the 5 position switch,
results in 5 different tones without the use of Capacitors.
position #1 is Full Coil Humbucking with 16k Ohms
position #2 is Split Coil Humbucking with 12k Ohms
position #3 is Full Single Coil with 8k ohms
position #4 Split Single Coil with 6k ohms
position #5 Parallel - Series with 10k ohms

also the knob closest to the player is the pick up switch, but it doesn't
turn so easy that bumping with your hand is going to change it's setting.
It has very definite feel for each position
Hope this helps answere any questions.....

Man, I never come over to this part of the forum and I wish I didn't today. I was sure I had the finest steel ever made and now it looks as though you went and improved it. I quess it's time to be nice to my wife and maybe by Christmas....?????? |

A stand for the Sierra would would be a good idea. These guitars are solid heavy and I'm not comfortable with the folding X stand.
David, what are your thoughts on routing out three holes on the bottom to accept sockets and telescoping legs. I have done this before on another steel with excellent results, but I'm not sure of the material on the Sierra. |

We made one with legs for a player in Texas, he loves it. But it is
expensive to do, a key board stand is high production and inexpensive. Also
you keep the bottom clear and free on anything. If some one was to mount
legs, I would recommend that the have the mounting screws tapped into the
center aluminum

I bought a Sierra lap steel in May of this year and would be interested to know if I could fit one of the new 5 switch pickups to it. Also what advantages the new pickup would have over the existing pickup (are the 5 tones really that different) and what would the costs be. |
