My wife is a fan of American Idol.
Last nite they had "opry nite". For a brief mili-second the camera flashed a Sierra PSG. Unfortunately, the sound man lost it in the mix. What little I did hear of it sounded like a "strat" with a bottleneck.
Ho-hum
Their loss, trying to meet commercial standards

I saw it too, Rick. I think that none of the arrangements were suitable for a steel. The sound man probably did the right thing to mix it waaay back. It would have been difficult to get a lick in. Everything was beyond traditional.
I think that I may have heard a real short intro to one song before he was lost in the mix.
I couldn't quite get my arms around "Ring of Fire". (but neither could Randy Travis) _________________ Bad wine is better than no wine. |

i'd hardly call it 'air time'. more like it was laying (american) idle!
not his fault that the music director was responsible for such boring anti-country arrangements. but why have a country week on the show and not have a musical accompaniment to embellish it? |

It's because the people who now run country music decided that they hate themselves, and want to be liked by fans of bad 1980's style rock music. The Opry and WSM is planning it's own demise as we post. _________________ Zum Encore, Zum Stage One, Fender 2000, Harlan Bros., Multi-Kord, |

Through no fault of his own, "idle" is the correct word.
The unnamed people who "run" commercial music,IMHO, are the reason I stopped working. I felt divorced from from my "roots". I feel that in a rash pursuit for $$$, the entire music industry, not just the country scene, has failed to build upon its roots. This leave NO Room for evolution into the art form. It's become "dead ended". ALL of it. But that's another story.
When I saw the Sierra, I thought I was in for a treat.
The steel player probably thought he was into something good too !
Last nite however, Mr. Paisley's steelman was given a little more room to breathe.
Last year Gretchen Wilson, & Jon BonJovi, both had PSG players, at a concert in Newark, NJ.
Hope springs eternal?

The Sierra player, Jay Leach, is a great guitarist and steel player, and a super nice person. His specialty is guitar for Christian music. He played at this year's Los Angeles Perl Jam, and was outstanding.
