I hear that steel amps can work well as acoustic guitar (or dobro) amps if you add a tweeter to them as an external speaker. Anyone ever try this? If so, what do you recommend for a tweeter? Maybe some kind of car stereo tweeter? |

You'll need a two-way crossover network, and my choice would be the kind of tweeter used in acoustic amps or PA speaker systems. If you still want to use the amp for steel, be sure you have a two-way switch to disconnect the crossover network and tweeter. Steel will sound harsh with the tweeter. |

Tom,
What a lot of folks don't know is that a lot of these boxes like the Pod or other Virtual Instrument boxes are voiced to work with stereo systems which have tweeters in them ....If you are using a regular amp setup , like David D said , make sure you disable the horn when playing ....Your dogs will thank you and so will your ears !!....Ji |

On second thought, it seems like a lame idea. It is probably better to have 2 amps. One for the steel and one for the dobro (and acoustic guitar). |

Or, just run the Dobro and acoustic guitar into the PA, like most people do. Seems like the only people who really need an acoustic guitar amp are solo instrumentalists who don't use a PA. |

I've used a Peavey Reno for ten years or so now. This is basically a Nashville with a horn/tweeter above the speaker. It's designed for acoustic instruments. Apart from the tweeter, it's identical to the Nashville. I have to say I didn't like it with the tweeter connected. It made the steel sound harsh. So, I disconnected it. The amp sounds great now. The added height in the cab to accommodate the tweeter gives the sound a little more depth I think. |
