HIGHTONE RECORDS TO LAUNCH TWANGBANGERS TOUR OF THE USA SHOWS WILL FEATURE BILL KIRCHEN, REDD VOLKAERT, DALLAS WAYNE & JOE GOLDMARK
OAKLAND, CA - HighTone Records will present The TwangBangers Tour of the USA, featuring Bill Kirchen (with Johnny and Jack), Redd Volkaert, Dallas Wayne and Joe Goldmark, which will unite these premier players onstage together in one honky-tonk supergroup for a four week trek from mid-September to mid-October.
Following the label's highly successful Roadhouse Revival and Monsters of Folk tours of the past five years, HighTone has put together an amazing talent package of some of the leading practitioners of American roots music for a one-of-a-kind gathering that promises to be one of the highlights of the summer/fall touring season.
Guitarist Bill Kirchen has already achieved legendary status by virtue of his earlier work as a member of Commander Cody's band and the architect of the incendiary guitar work on the classic, "Hot Rod Lincoln." Since then, he's added to his reputation as one of the most amazing players in the contemporary roots scene with a style known as dieselbilly, which incorporates his love for truck-driving songs, hard-core country, blues and flat-out rock and roll. His third HighTone CD, Tied to the Wheel, is set for release August 21. Serving as The TwangBangers rhythm section for the tour are Johnny Castle on bass and Jack O'Dell on drums, collectively known as Too Much Fun, who've been working with Kirchen for over 10 years.
Since 1997, Redd Volkaert has held down the lead guitarist role in Merle Haggard's band The Strangers, which has given music fans all around the world the opportunity to hear his phenomenal guitar style, which glides easily between country shuffles, chicken-pickin' fret-burners, rock and roll and blues. Redd's second HighTone release, No Stranger to a Tele, has grabbed the attention of music fans and critics alike, including features on NPR's "All Things Considered" and in The Los Angeles Times.
When Dallas Wayne emerged in 2000 with his booming baritone voice and straight shot of honky-tonk music, fans of traditional country music rejoiced. The Springfield, Missouri, native's brand of country struck a responsive chord around the globe, with rave reviews in Billboard, The Washington Post and Chicago Sun Times. His second album, Here I Am in Dallas, set for release on August 21, delivers more honky-tonk gems.
Joe Goldmark has carried the torch for the steel guitar for over 20 years, working with a number of San Francisco Bay area bands and as the choice for recording sessions with such artists David Byrne, Taj Mahal, Maria Muldaur and Peter Rowan. The hallmark of Joe's playing is his usage of the steel guitar in a variety of styles outside the normal confines of country, including rock, r&b and blues. Joe's second HighTone album, Strong Like Bull… But Sensitive Like Squirrel delivers on that promise.
HighTone Records will support the TwangBangers tour with a national marketing campaign including specially designed logo tour posters, t-shirts and a16-track promotional CD sampler. Advertising is planned in alternative weekly publications throughout the tour and the label will utilize a number of retail marketing programs. The TwangBangers Tour of the USA is being booked by Laurie Higashi of Eastern Star Productions in San Francisco.
