I pulled the speaker from my Steel King and it's sitting around doing nothing. I've got a Weber Cali in a cab that I like but its 80 watt rating limits its use. The Cali somewhat sounds like a JBL. The FSK Eminence is modeled after the JBL.
So...ideally I'd like a Cali or JBL speaker that can handle high power. So I'm going to try this in a Marrs cab. Has anyone used the Steel King speaker in another amp or cab? How'd it work out for you?

Hi Jon,

I'm using the Eminence Commonwealth 15" speaker (allegedly identical to the FSK Eminence speaker) in my Steel Tzar (a rebuilt Fender Super Twin Reverb.) That speaker is a perfect match for the high-power tube amp, and it works great for steel as well for as regular 6-string guitar.

Here's the story about my rebuild project:

Ah yes. Thanks for bringing that back up, Jan. It was good to re-read it. That totally caught my attention back then but I had forgotten about the speaker. Good. That's what I was hoping to hear. It only makes sense that this speaker ought to be a good high-power option where one is afraid of blowing a D130F or a Weber. It sure is a heavy mutha, though, isn't it?!

FWIW--I had an Emi Kappa in the Marrs cab that was....ok. But in general I am finding this speaker to be flat and bland. It occurred to me that I was willing to accept the tonal compromise in a combo amp where the weight reduction was significant. Or at least my back is telling me to accept it. But in a Marrs cab---lord knows I can handle an overweight speaker in these featherweight boxes. So the Kappa goes in the FSK and the FSK OEM Emi goes in the Marrs. (PDQ, ASAP, OMG, MEK).

Gives me some nice choices of what to grab as I walk out then door.

Yes, the Super Twin is worth it's gold in weight ... you need a strong back or roadies to haul it around. But with the Fulawka in its case in the other hand, it's a good carrying balance. Smile

The FSK OEM Emi speaker in a Marrs cabinet sounds like an excellent idea. IMHO
