New CD with Emmons,Hughey & me
I want to let everyone know about this fairly obscure session project Buddy, John and I recorded on over a year ago. This Dave Peterson CD titled "Comin On Strong" is not only one of the best pure country CD's to ever come out of Nashville, It is also significant because it contains the last great session project that John Hughey worked on before his passing. Dave also believes this is possibly the last sessions Buddy worked before his 2007 St'Louis performance.
I just got my copy and I believe this contains some of John's and Buddy's finest recorded solos. What more can anyone say about either player that hasn't been said over and over again. Buddy and John always deliver exactly what's needed behind the singer with flair and originality.
John's playing is stellar on each of his cuts. I love the soulful way he plays on every song.
I predict that Buddy's E9th solo on "The Waltz You Saved For Me" and his C6th solo on "The Crazy Blues" will become classics to everyone who hears them. His Back up on "Family Bible" made me smile. It sounds like Buddy was really enjoying the sessions.
There are 18 songs total. I told Dave I was going to post this with his permission.
About Dave Peterson. He is what I would call a singers, singer. Dave's voice is as clean and pure as the songs he chooses to bring to his audiences. His voice on these songs is a perfect marriage. His interpretation of traditional country music is why I moved to Nashville.
All of the songs were recorded with no baffles, or isolation booths to 2" tape. Leakage was desired to give the CD the sound of an era gone by. Because of the leakage all of the music had to be recorded live. This is not a modern sounding digital CD. It sounds refreshing. I can honestly say this is the most down the center, Country record I have ever had the chance to work on.
For anyone who is interested you can order this directly from Dave. Send a check for $18.00 (includes all shipping charges) to:

There is unfortunately no big label at this time to help promote this CD. I Hope nobody is offended that I posted this here. I felt this CD is way too good to be missed by anyone who truly loves steel guitars and great Country Music.
Thanks,
Paul Franklin

Paul,
Thanks for informing us of this CD.
I MUST have it.
I don'nt know if Dave will accept Pay Pal,if not I hope I can get someone to bring it to Dallas and I will get it there.
I look forward to seeing You there.
One other thing Paul, You told us about the wonderful playing of the Two greats on the album,Namely Messers Hughey and Emmons, what about the third great? Franklin.?
This just shows Your class Paul, whilst I admire You as a player I admire You even more as a Person who can sing the praises of other players.
Best regards
Billy

I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of this a while back, and for sure it's everything Paul says it is (and more, since he doesn't tell you how great his own playing is). I was also lucky enough to see Paul play this material live with Dave a few times in small local venues and I've never enjoyed his playing more (which is really saying something...!).
The album was co-produced by Dennis Crouch, and features several other Time-jumpers as well as stellar guitar playing by Bryan Sutton and Richard Bennett. I've played my copy as much as any CD I own in the past year...

Paul, nobody is offended that you posted this, and in fact, it's safe to say everybody is grateful to you for doing so.Franklin wrote:

But what IS offensive is that the big record companies are not getting behind this. It's a pretty sad commentary on the state of the music business.
Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Well Im going to the post office and getting US dollars cash,I dont have paypal and Im not sure if there is anything other way of sending it ( I will ask at the PO ) but its only a miniscule risk of it getting lost in the post.
Mike (perlowin) just to make sure I send enough shipping could you remind me of the shipping cost to UK for the Curley Chalker DVD , thanks.
Paul , what steve Hellerich said, a pure country instrumental album , what about a pure country double CD set with you and Buddy ? what about a DVD you and Buddy ... Oh am I dreaming ?
