I'm looking for a scanner software that can recognize letters and scan them into a Word document instead of to a photo file, but don't know what to look for. One of my older pc:s hade such a program called just a three letter abbreviation that I no longer remember.
Any hints?

OCR ("Optical character recognition") is the acronym you are trying to remember.
There are freeware and open source programs to be found on google but I have no experience with any of them. Sorry I can't help.

Your scanner might have some OCR software bundled with it.

That's it - thanks! Smile I found an OCR program on download.com right away; however it spells swedish like Snuffy Smith drunk on moonshine Mr. Green but that's possible to correct afterwards (the spelling - not Snuffy's chemical balance).
The scanner doesn't seem to have such a program with it, oddly enough.

Thanks again!

I think FreeOCR for Windows is a popular one, or at least it uses an OCR engine that is popular in the open source world. I mention it in case that's not what you're using already and wanted to try out another.

Also if the OCR is having issues with certain letters try scanning at a higher resolution.
