Hello everyone....Apparently I have an 'ATTITUDE'..read on..

Post by David Hartley »

I just logged onto youtube an replied to 9 personal messages and the most recent one was this..

I was going to buy a Rains steel guitar until I saw how big an attitude you have, I have seen another Steel player with your attitude before it was '?????????????', and I would say he is either French or English with his name. Your a good player but no matter how good someone gets their attitude is of GREAT Importance, I sent this on one of my sites I use to flame. there is no sense in a war of words with someone. People have replied to your recordings I have not seen ONE response to ANY OF THEM. I guess you feel your to f*%^£!g good to answer them. Have a nice day.

I have removed the other steel players name. He is one of my favorite players and is still working now, and I buy all the recordings even today that I know he has sessioned on! He has also emailed me personally on a few occasions. He certainly does NOT have an attiude and I really dont think I do either!

Hey guys (and Tamara! Ha!), I answer all my emails and personal messages, I have been out here for over an hour just this morning doing just that! I have sent this person and very long polite reply too. If its a forum member and they see this, I hope it makes them think again. I think maybe the writer of this message to me may have the attitude..

Regards to you all.

David Hartley.

PS? I have had trouble getting the forum up just lately, has it been glitchy at times? Or is it my PC?

David, not to worry, the internet is a large place, take all the people you know, multiply it by a several million , add in several million different personalities and then you will have it figured out. :D

My take, just forget these people and these comments, just continue on with what you do, playing music and sharing it. Trying to figure out or understanding these types of distractions is a total waste of time.

It may even be possible that the person directing the comments to you is 8 years old !

Hi David, Tony is absolutely right.
Sometimes I get negative and/or obscene messages or ridiculously stupid questions on YouTube videos.
I block the user first and then delete the message.
Considering that these people are essentially anonymous, that makes their opinions not worthy of any consideration.
Someone who doesn't know you has no clue what your "attitude" is, and is certainly not qualified to comment on it.
On the other hand, if someone asks a legitimate question or posts a thoughtful comment - I'm only too happy to take the time to respond.
The sad fact is, there are many disturbed individuals out there who have nothing going for them - and the only way they know to fill the void is to snipe at others.
Feel sorry for them, but don't play into their bs.
All they want is to get a rise out of you, then they can feel they have "accomplished" something.
It's all they have.
How many productive and balanced people do you think there are who engage in this type of activity?
My guess would be - none.

One of the things we do when we "go public" (on utoob, or anywhere else) is to invite criticism. It goes with the territory...the more stuff you post, the more flak you get.

Now you know why so many players here hate me!
I do not know the key to success. But I do know the key to failure, and that is to try to please everyone.

I've never had the pleasure of meeting David and the only contact with him was to send an email about a particular couple of measures I was having trouble locating and he responded by posting the tab on the forum for me. ! An attitude ? Maybe --but it was the right one in my case ---Thanks David-- :)

Dave with an Attitude, I dont think so.
After replying to a miniscuel question like, how would you fix an I Touch to the end of your steel, which on my side, needed only a little thinking about, and could have brought back a remark like, Pratt, he answered very quickly, so no problem there.
And you have to remember, the man works all day, play's in the evening, so unlike me, who sits on his butt all day on the steel, or the computer, it takes time to answer everyone.
I think the guy was just looking for someone to have a blast at, and as for the statement, I was going to buy a Rains, but not now, as you wont talk to me, is a pretty weak statement. If I decided to buy a Rains because I liked it, he could swear at me all day, it would'nt change my choice, stay with it Dave, after all, we have to keep the British Stiff Upper Lip.Slim.

David with attitude??? No way. He has answered all emails that I have sent him and has been more than generous with tips and how to's.

I find on youtube that most comments are not answered; and if that is what the guy expected he is in for a big let down.

David,

I have also had problems the last few days trying to get on the net.

Mark T

David, please don't change anything. I live for your videos and I wish I could come close to the "touch" you have. I've noticed, in the past, that one word can set some people off. I'm hoping that you continue to tab all of your videos; I collect 'em not only for myself but I'm gonna leave my collection to my grandchildren. I have a grand daughter and a grand son that love the psg.

David's Attitude?

Post by Gary Stenulson »

It's to bad that more folks don't have that attitude that David has...I sent him an e-mail asking a couple of questions and I had an answer so fast that I thought my e-mail was coming back to me...

If that is a man with an attitude, then keep it coming..I myself have left e-mail for a couple of other folks here and never did receive a response...

Pay the complaintent no mind David as it sounds like he's the one with an attitude problem...

Just keep those video's coming...They are TEEERIFFFICC!

Attitude???

Post by Charles Pompe »

No attitude, just talent and execution. The world is full of people who think puting someone down puts them up. It doesn't. Let them drown in their own ******.

David, could it be peer jealousy, or just stupidity? There's a lot of both going around these days. Sounds like a bunch of sour grapes to this old phoghorn. I once donated my favorite steel guitar to an auction to provide a fellow forumite with enough money to bury his wife, and you would not believe the emails I received for being a suck up, brown noser, and a few things not printable. Just goes with the job I guess. I enjoy your videos, played with an attitude, so screw the guy. Put on the blinders and please keep it up.

I don't know you, David... I've emailed you and you emailed back, but even before that, my sense of you from watching your Utube videos is that you are a great guy with loads of talent and that you are probably extremely busy between work, practice, and answering emails and family.

This person falls under the category of "ridiculous" and should just be ignored. Don't waste time or thought on the crazies.

This is a classic example of what business/life/entertainment, etc have to offer. It is my experience that, no matter what you do or who you are, 10% of the folks are gonna love you, 10% are gonna hate you, and the other 80% just want you to do what you do and get on with it.

A few months ago I sent an email to David asking him how I could obtain 4 of his tabs to my favorite songs. Within a matter of minutes he emailed them to me. I mailed him back, asking him for an adress of where to send my payment. To my great surprise, he said to keep them, that they were a free gift from him.

Several weeks later a steel player I was talking to from upstate New York told me he had emailed David with some copedent questions. He too said that David sent him the information within minutes.

Certainly, if this is what someone calls an "attitude" then I hope everbody can get one like his.
When it comes to helping out those of us who are aspiring to learn a little more and play a little better, David Hartley takes a back seat to no one.
He is one of the finest steel players out there. and has joined the ranks of Bobbe Seymour, Mickey Adams, Ron Ayes, Gene Jones, Erv Niehaus, Ricky Davis, Doug Beaumier, etc, etc, etc,....

A great big tip of my hat to you Mr.Hartley.....and keep cranking out those beautiful you-tube videos.

David,
Have never met you or corresponded with you but from what I've read of your posts and from the vids on u-tube I can find no attitude problems. It seems just the opposite, you go out of your way to help other steelers. Keep up the good work!

I have met David at one of John Davis's 'pedal steel meets' in Cambridgeshire and I can assure anyone, that the only 'attitude' David displayed was a willingness to take time to talk to a newbie like me. He is an excellent musician and a gentleman to talk to.

Best Regards David and keep pickin! Ron Mc
