Dan Dugmore was just on the President's Honors Awards last night playing with Stuart Duncan on the George Jones tribute portion. Dan Dugmore needs to be inducted into The Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame. |

Yeah,I still have those Ronstadt-vinyls,playable if
somewhat scratchy, and I clearly remember being
ESPECIALLY touched at heart by Dan´s playing on
"Silver Threads And Golden Needles" ; it ain´t
"Four Wheel Drive",but the sincerity of his playing
still moves me,decades later...McUtsi |

Silver Threads was Ed Black on his ZB on the recording. |

It's Dan Dugmore on that video for sure. Nice job. I think Sneaky Pete played on her recorded version of that one. I could check the liner note credits, but I'm too lazy to go and dig it out right now...
That's some smokin' hot steel playing that Ed Black did on Silver Threads. I've always loved that version. There's another version of Silver Threads out there with keyboards in place of steel - not so good. _________________ Steeless. |

may very well be wrong, .... the memory ain't what it used to be ...
but I seem to remember that it was Sneaky Pete on the original record that I had way back then...
Album was called "Heart Like a Wheel" I think.
Can anyone verify this? |

I just got out my "Heart Like a Wheel" LP. Sneaky Pete on It Doesn't Matter Any More is correct. |

...I did a mix-up...it´s Black playing on "Silver
Threads..." ; it´s from the "Dont Cry Now" album ;
I´ve known this fact for decades, which makes it
even more embarrassing ; is my mind starting to
slip already..?..doesn´t change a thing,though...
the Steel playing on that song has qualities,AND
I encountered it during my formative years.McUtsi |

The original recording of "Silver Threads," which came on Linda's songlist while I was on the band in 1968, occured in January or February of 1969 for the album "Hand Sown Home Grown," Linda's first solo effort away from the Stone Poneys. Red Rhodes played steel, Clarence White and Dick Rosmini on guitars, Richard Greene on fiddle, Chip Douglas on bass, and Eddie Hoh on drums.
Ed Black later recorded a very nice solo, tipping the hat to Red with the effects used and reminiscent of RR's original cut. This is the solo on the "Greatest Hits" record, or whatever albums it was on. I'm not a chronicler of Linda's recordings after my tenure. But Ed's version is the most-often heard.
I don't believe Sneaky cut "Silver," though he certainly did do a goodly amount of work with Linda, as did Dugmore. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |
