For the 4th consecutive year, I will be playing at Shenanigan's in Texas City, with my good friends the Cimarron Band. This year we will have the distinct honor of having my very own daughter Madalyne playing fiddle with us!!

I am more excited for this gig than any other I've played in the last 10 years - we will be doing stuff like Cherokee Fiddle, Play Born to Lose Again, Miami my Amy, and many other tunes of a similar vintage!

Happy Holidays to all, and be safe out there on NYE!!!

I'll be playing at Leon Springs Dancehall San Antonio, Tx. I'll be playing my 14th New Year's Eve with Billy Mata and the Texas Tradition. Right in my backyard. We'll be playing Western Swing, Shuffles and waltzes. Doesn't get much more country than that.

"Country Express" will be keeping it country at the fire hall at Margaretville, NY from 9:00 to 1:00. We are lucky to have a large, mostly gray haired following, and they rent the fire hall and hire us to lead the party three or four time a year. There will be a buffet table at one end with lots of eats and snacks, a punch bowl and a coffee pot, and lots of tom foolery at midnight!

I’ll be playing solo dobro at Miro Bistro, an upscale restaurant in downtown Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM. I have to admit it won’t be all country. There is also a bit of pop-jazz, 1960’s rock, and new-age improv stuff (hey – I gotta fill close to 4 hours!).

I will be playing with the Country Pride band at Enid Moose Lodge from 9:00 till 1:00 and doing good ol' classic country with a bit of 50's rock thrown in.
We usually have pretty big crowds there on New years eve and a good time----breakfast served at 12:30am.

Happy New Year----Jack

I don't use backing tracks. I've developed a form of chord - melody playing on this Hawaiian instrument. With the dobro's major chord tuning layout, this style requires quite a bit of initial arranging, and I have to choose tunes quite carefully.
The presentation seems to be working pretty well. I've played in this restaurant for about a year and a half, irregularly, about once a month.

Bryan, I hoped that was the case. Do you have any CD's or recordings of your playing? I'll bet it is very nice stuff.

I have a Facebook page. I just made and posted a video a couple of days ago of one of the acoustic lap steel tunes, plus one of Spanish guitar playing.
None of my solo stuff is on CD yet. There is a youtube presentation coming up, "soon" I'm told, on my busking with dobro on the youtube page of picker999:
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=6018491A53EAEFB8
My playing as a sideman is well demonstrated on Charlie Ewing's CD, Cowboy Ways. I play bottle-neck guitar, electric lap steel, and dobro on this CD. Some samples are at:
http://cdbaby.com/cd/charlieewing
I also did some recent session work for a CD by local artist Dusty Dee Litchfield. Release date is unknown to me.

In the old dance hall at Luckenbach TX, with Bo Porter. Also on the bill will be the excellent Mike Blakely, with (I assume) the fine Scott Martin on steel.

Maybe there WOULD be more replies if not for things like this:

Quote:
Please just list those gigs where it's gonna be Country Music. Most of my friends & post observers don't care for that alternative stuff.

Really? Didn't know "most post observers" had a spokesman who essentially says "don't bother us with anything outside our little happy box".

I'll be working NYE - And I guarantee you won't like it. It will be a nice mellow church New Years' Eve party - with classic rock, Motown, Who tunes, Stones, Skynyrd - on the few "country" songs I'm playing bender Tele - and playing steel (and Tele) on the rock and some soul stuff.

Oh - and it'll be LOUD and I'll try to use distortion so any stray steel players will know it's rock. Don't want to cause any confusion, since it's distortion that defines the style.
