As I'm getting one of the cheap Weissenborns I just wondered how many (if any) players use a C6th tuning on theirs?

I did. I had a Superior. It sounded great in C6. There was some talk on the forum for awhile that," High Tension Tunings," such as C6 were innappropriate and could damage the guitar. So I wrote to the manufacturer. I was told that such stories were pure bovine excrement. I used the low C6 (with the E 1st string). I switched to a tricone in order to get more volume. But I have recently decided that I also need a Weisse. So I'm saving up for maybe a Bear Creek. It will be in C6. I need the versatility that tuning affords.

I had Bill Hardin brace my Bear Creek at the construction stage for the extra string tension of C6th and after a short while owning the guitar, spent the next eight years tuning it down to Bb6 or A6th. I finally gave in to the fact that the guitar really comes alive in open D. So that's where it now lives permanently.

Ed,

There's a beautiful Bear Creek Kona for sale in the San Francisco Bay Area Craigslist for musical instruments under lap steel.

I have nothing to do with it, but the guy selling it has already come way down with no takers and he might go lower.

Just thought I'd pass it along.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out. But he'd have to go awfully low for me to make it right now.
