Hey Craig, I doubt very seriously that we are playing any kinda SXSW venue. If you saw a add that we are playing on; than it's a misprint. We don't involve ourselfs in those kinda goings on. We will be playing our regular gigs around town, so come on out; it will be good to see ya.
CC> well I can't hardly wait now

Hey Doug; mainly because Dale already has a deal with Autium Records now. The SXSW deal is a sham as far as the going ons. Austin is the location for a music industry Convention. Many years ago when they started having their deal here; alot of the Record industry folks would go out at night after the convention during the day. Well some of the Record execs. were impressed with a band or two and signed them on the spot. So every since then; club owners and managers started involving there money hungry ideas into the deal and started hyping up the gigs as a venue to showcase bands for these music industry folks; and would invite them to come hear local talent. Well the Record execs and conventioneers are the least bit excited about signing anybody; but to appease the situation of this area; they go along with it. The bands are ignorant if they think they are gunna get a deal out of SXSW showcases; and the club owners and management put all the money in their pockets as a very productive week or two for them; as the bands and musicians are shafted yet again>in every way possible.
It's all hype and not a big deal; but so many new comers and a bazzillion bands think they are gunna get their big deal>and they are 99% DEAD WRONG.
So Dale is of course against including hisself in such a deal and it's really a promotion for the club owners and management; at "YET AGAIN" the bands and musicians expense and hopes and dreams.
I myself don't particularly care either way; I think 99% of the music industry folks and club owners are a bunch of idiots and hate music for the most part anyways.

Ricky, I kinda figured that about the whole deal there. I am going as a fan to see as much as I can in a short period of time. I personally don't care if any of the shows are involved with SXSW, I just know that there will be alot to see in that window of time.
Where are you playing, I thought I saw it on Dale's site.
Herb Steiner mentioned some jam in the parking lot of a Mexican restaurant on Sunday, sounds interesting. Hope to see you there.

Hey Ricky,We (Eleven Hundred Springs) are doing the house gig at Billy Bobs this week so I will for sure be at the White Elephant to see you guys show during our break.
Craig, The "South By South Austin" show that Herb mentioned is at the parking lot of the Texacali Grill on S. Oltorff in South Austin. I played there last year, and will be there again this year. This show was a blast, and it starts early (about 11am).
[This message was edited by Steve B on 10 March 2001 at 09:42 AM.]

Yes, I was in Texas last weekend (Jon Wayne band) and will be back next weekend (Chris Gaffney band)
We have 4 gigs in Austin, then we'll climb into the mobile units and head out across Texas for some other gigs (El Paso is first). It sounds easy since I have been told that Texas is a very compact little place, and all the cities are close together.

I haven't heard of Autium Records. But if Dale's deal is with Audium Records, he may want to look at South by Southwest again. I'm familiar with the principals (and the principles) of that label. As he should with all labels, tell Dale to please be careful. Best, Boomer

Hi Ricky,
What happened to Dale's deal with Warner Brothers?

Hey Boomer yeah that's it>Audium. I don't know them but I have met Nick (last name?).
So what is your name Boomer, If I can ask?
Can you e-mail me what you know? Isn't this the same label that has Loretta Lynn?
If I just tell Dale that somebody said>"Be Careful"; he will ask me why and I don't have an answer for him>so any help would be appreciated.
Oh we cut a CD out at Capitol Records for Sire/Warner bros. and it was a great CD; but they tossed it on the shelf cause it was too Country; so Dale said let me the he!! out of this deal and Seymour Stein said alrighty> so that's that.
I don't involve myself in those deals as non of them are my deals; so I don't know all the details of this stuff(he!! I didn't even know how to spell Audium Records
)

Ricky - My real name is Boomer Castleman. By way of veracity I live in the Nashville area, worked with a pal of yours (Herb Steiner years and years ago) in different groups; I owned BNA Records until '91 and sold it to RCA. Currently I'm on the Nuance/Warner Bros. instrumental compilation album "Nashville Guitars" and play some in and around Nashville; I also record with Taxim Records in a group called "Mr. Hyde"; I own a small label and a couple of publishing companies here in town and keep my finger pretty much on the pulse of the streets.
Audium Records is owned and operated by Simon Renshaw. You probably met Nick Hunter, who used to be head of promotion for Warner Bros. and now has a similar position at Audium.
It would be in poor taste to air my specific concerns on this public forum. However if Dale (or Nick Hunter for that matter) would like to know specifics, have either one of them e-mail me at
palmpedal@cs.com and I will gladly voice my concerns.
True, Loretta Lynn is on the label; and probably one of the best barometers Dale can use as to how he himself may be treated by Audium is to talk with the other artists already on the label to see what - if any - red flags are raised. Hey Boomer; thanks a bunch for your insight and I just spoke with Dale and he is e-mailing you ASAP. As I didn't know exactly where he is at with them right now>he is in the middle of negotiations and he knows you and will love to hear your insights to this matter.
SXSW>ok maybe he will take advantage of the folks who are interested in the Dale Watson band. Ya see "anything can be anything in this Music Business".(ha............
