| Check out Fred Gerlach's "Gallis Pole" on Folkways in 1962. Gerlach apparently got it from the Leadbelly version but Jimmy Page credits the Gerlach version and the similarities between Gerlach & the Zipper version are pretty clear. Gerlach's version was re-released on Classic Folk Music from Smithsonian Folkways, SFW CD 40110. |

| Page & John Paul Jones both took the classic session player's approach to things - tune it like a guitar if that's what it took, just make the darn sound.... I imagine Page didn't sit down and learn a bunch of Earl Scruggs breakdowns note-for-note, he just figured out how to make it go. |
