I just saw an 8-string ShoBud dobro that was made for Buddy Emmons on ebay.
Shot Jackson made 6 ShoBud dorbos between 1969 and 1973. Two that I know of, the one on ebay and the one George Edwards has, were eight strings. Mine is a 7-string and was made for Shot's buddy, Lloyd Pillow. Maybe one other was a 7-string and I think the rest were six-strings.
Shot had to put the ShoBud label on them since Gretsch was making ShoBros for him at the time. All 6 of the ShoBuds were customs, and if they are like mine, they play well and sound great.
I found it in ebay under "Shot Jackson"
A.J. Nelson (no relation to me) did the finishing work on all six.

Interesting - and cool that it was a personal guitar of Buddy's.
No way on God's green earth would I pay that kind of money for a Sho-Bud reso, unless I were an Arab oil sheik that collects guitars. If I wanted a "player's reso" I think there is still a beautiful Beard E on the Forum for less money.
The seller had it given to him by Buddy, but needs the money and wants to sell it for $3,500+, and I guess one needs to know the actual story in giving the seller the benefit of the doubt. I don't know, maybe it's just me, and I don't want to sound like I'm up on my "high horse" - but something doesn't seem quite right about that. _________________ Mark |

Nice guitar! I'll bet it sounds a lot better than the Gretsch one I had.
Bear, he's a site you might find handy to manage those long urls.

buddy told a story once of when after a session with a sho-bro or something, he gave it to someone after the session 'cause he was frustrated with the tone or some aspect of it.
that being said, i would treasure that axe, and the price is high, but not like the $18,000 sho-bud on ebay. |
