How do I know a USB 2.0 port from the others?
Using XP Home edition SP2

I'm on a Mac at the moment, but a quick way is to plug a USB 2.0 device into it and a warning will pop up if it's not a 2.0 port.

Go to the Device Manager (Hold down the Windows key and then press the Pause/Break key) and display the USB. If there is one entry with "enhanced controller" then you have USB 2.0 ports.

However, depending on the age and make of computer, some earlier model PC's with USB 2.0 may only have certain ports that are 2.0. On models within the last 6 years or so they are all USB 2.0.

If your PC is supposed to have USB 2.0 and you do not have the "enhanced controller" listing, check the BIOS (setup) as some PC's have an option to enable that in the BIOS (may even be labeled "legacy" for the USB).

If the PC does not have USB 2.0 capability and you need it, you will have to install a USB 2.0 PCI card as you can't "upgrade" or "update" the existing hardware and software for USB 2.0.
