One of my musical projects is a 4 piece western-swing/Jazz combo, and we have been invited to play at the prestigious Nelson Jazz Festival in the new year week, Jan 2009 out here in New Zealand ... (it's summer here!). I am quite excited at the prospect of introducing the jazz faithful to the wonders of the C6th tuning - it should be a lot of fun!

Check out the link to the festival below, and scroll down the home page to "Artists for 2009" .... click on the "Cactus Swing Band" for a bit of info on the group, I'm the youngster 2nd from left in the Charlie Horse hat !

Paddy,

Your C6 will knock em out. You'll show some people that steel is far more than only a country instrument.

Paddy,I will miss all the fun at "Commonwealth Corner" this coming March, as Im heading off to Sydney Australia. Will be there from 7th March to 25th. Any steel players in the Sydney area,or venues featuring steel guitar? Wish you luck with your jazz venue...

Ben they were originally going to have some soundbites on the Jazz fest website - not sure what happened there! We have a 12 track CD available so I may bring some over to the Brisbane steel show in June, Brian usually comes with me to that so we can carry a few in our luggage!

Ben I found where they had the soundbite buried -- it was in the E-programme !! So go to this link and click on the speaker icon and you should hear a bit of one of the tunes !!
