Mozilla Foundation, the makers of Firefox, will be ending all updates and support for Firefox series 2 browsers, in January 2009. Firefox 2.0.0.19, which will be the last security update for the browser before Mozilla discontinues support, is currently slated to ship on Dec. 16. There will also be a Firefox 3.0.5 update released at the same time.
In addition to being the last of the series 2 browsers, version 2.0.0.19 will have the anti phishing filter turned off and permanently disabled. This is at the request of Google, the supplier of the blacklist used by Firefox browsers. Google has changed the protocol behind this filter and only Firefox series 3 browsers will be updated to stay current with those changes. In fact, the upcoming 3.0.5 update will include a step up to the latest technology used by Google's anti phishing alert system, named "SafeBrowsing."
For those of you who have not yet tried Firefox browsers, you can download the latest version from this page. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum
