I found this, Maybe it could be used for creating a steel sound for non steel players.

The trombone sound bite is pretty cool! Bet you could at least do a good imitation of bottleneck guitar with that controller.

I think the controller will also manipulate chords. So, more is possible than just a one string sound.

The ribbon controller is no different that a pitch wheel on a synthesizer. Yes, it will work on chords, but all the notes will be shifted by the same amount (basically the same as sliding your bar up and down the fretboard). There is no way to pick individual notes from the chord and vary the pitch by different amounts (like stepping on the A & B pedals where the E note remains constant, the G# raises 1/2 step, and the B raises 1 whole step). This is why the synthesizer can not replace the pedal steel guitar (at least at this time).
