I was given some very nice cherry wood. Has anyone used this for a lap steel? Also, any comments on its suitability.

A good friend & neighbor had a lot of Wild Cherry in the loft of a garage that had been there for over 40 yrs. Some of the boards were 10 feet long by 12 inches wide by 1 inch thick.
They gave me some of it and I made my lap steel guitar out of it by laminating two pieces together.
It has a Rick Aiello style MRI pickup in it and I love the sound of it. I may get some disagreement here, but my opinion is you get more sound / tone out of the pickup and amplifier settings than you do from the wood itself on a solid body guitar. Especially if you use a close grained hard wood.
If you have some Wild Cherry I would use it. I think you will be pleased with the results. Just MHO. Cool

The wood plays a critical part in determining the resonant frequency of the instrument and the sustain factor. You can't really equate one over the other. BOTH are equally important.

Cherry is accepted as a good tone wood.
