Charles Reece passes

Post by Bill Ford »

I just talked to the family a few minutes ago, and was informed that Charles had passed at about 2:30 PM today,Nov, 18, 2008.

I feel as though I have lost a brother, Charles was always ready to help his fellow man in any way he could. I first met Charlie about 55 years ago, it was an instant friendship that lasted all these years.

Please remember his family in your prayers...

We are so sorry to hear this. Charles was a brave man who fought the good fight with this terrible sickness. May his family and friends find comfort from our Lord knowing he is with the Savior.
Sincerely, Bob and Carol

I expected this, but I sure wasn't ready for it. Like Bill, Charles and I hit it off from day one. Charles was a gifted man in so many ways, but his greatest gift, was giving. He graciously gave his time, his talent, and his friendship, to everyone he came in contact with. We shared a lot of good times, and I grew to love Charles as much as my own father, who died when I was 16. I mourn for, and with, the Reece family, and give praise to Almighty God, who ended Charles Reece's suffering today. Arrangements will be announced.

Our condolences to the Reece family. Charles indeed was a benifit to the steel guitar industry. I really enjoyed being there at a few of the conventions in SC and other places when a chance to play along side him was indeed an honor for me. He will be missed by us all.

Charles Reece
Buddy Walker And Charles Reece Started The Southern Steel Guitar Convention in 1987 and This Last Weekend The 90th Show was Completed. I'll always regret never being able to get back to Saluda And Seeing Charles and Buddy Once more. The last Time I was in Saluda They both were alive and now they are both gone. Together they produced 90 Southern Steel Guitar Conventions, More Than Anybody ever.

Charles Reece always made sure I got a copy of his latest CD and I will always treasure those. If You have anybody that you value as a Friend and Brother, Like I did Charles and Buddy, Don't wait a moment longer, get out and see them if you possibly can. We are losing some great Steelers and even greater Men at an alarming rate lately.

My Deepest Sympathy Goes out To Mrs Reece and The Family. Tonight there is an empty space inside me.

Is this the same Charles Reese who went by toolmaker?
He also had made a non pedal steel recently. If so I'm also in shock. We have been emailing each other for the past few weeks. He said he was getting ready to go to Arizona to see his son.

Bill,
This is the Charles Reece in Clearwater SC. He also was the builder of CLR pedal steel, also one of, if not the finest push pull mechanics around. Along with Buddy Walker, they were responsible for the Saluda steel guitar convention.
