I just received an e-mail from an Italian guitar builder/designer named Leonardo Aurelio, with some photos of his lap steels.

Hold on to your hats!

Shocked

And this one, with what seems to be a tremolo:

I wonder how practical they are to take to gigs, but he has some pretty wild ideas! And I like the "surrealist/1920s industrialism" feel to his designs.

Here are the web addresses of Aurelio guitars:

He has some radical guitar designs too!

What are your thoughts?

Fred

I found a youtube demo of a third model:

http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=nqvyAY94Tds

The sound quality is not the best (it seems to be digital distortion on the recording on the loud bits, not amp overdrive - or?), but it seems to have a unique sound. I like the clean sound - it sounds almost acoustic.

Having listened to the youtube clip a few times I am VERY intrigued by that third model! It sounds sort of like an acoustic/Sunrise/Weissenborn sound and an electric at the same time. Could it be an aluminum construction?

I have e-mailed the builder asking for pics/specs/info on this model, and the price, which I am afraid to discover, because I think I may want one. Oh Well

They appear to be easy to hold on the lap. Sure some interesting ideas there.

Cool stuff, kind of dig that Rube Goldberg like implementation on the second one.

I laughed out loud when I saw that fold-back neck guitar. Very fine. I've tried but I just can't come up with a mechanical sense of what's going on with #2. Looks like it does something cool.
I love his stuff.
