He resembles "Red Rhodes". I don't know if Red spent any time in Nashville or played with Merle. |

I thought it might be Fuzz Owens, but he does resemble Red Rhodes. Any other ideas? Jody. |

Red Rhodes on steel, Johnny Davis on guitar. Don't know the bass player, Biff Adams on the drums. Positive ! |

That is Red Rhodes on steel. It was a movie that was made in Hollywood around 1966 and the producer hired the band from the Palamino in No. Hollywood to play some of the music. That is also Biff Adam on the drums. I went to work for Merle in 1967 and became band leader of the Strangers, and hired Biff in 1969 to be the drummer. About the same time we hired other band members from the Palamino. Dennis Hromek on bass and Bobby Wayne for rythmn and Harmony singing.
Red Rhodes was a great steel player along with being a real nice guy to be around. He was a good band leader and allways had good musicians and did`nt seem to mind when we borrowed a few for the Strangers.
That movie had a lot of country artist in it, and at one time you could get a copy from video stores.

Hey, Jim Bob.
I was pretty sure it was "Red" but I didn't pick up on Johnny Davis. The old eyes are not as good as they used to be. |

That was a scene from "Hillbillys In a Haunted House".
I have a copy of it, and I do understand why it made it on the "50 worst movies ever made" list. The only good part is the "concert" at the end of the show with Merle, Sonny James, Molly Bee, and others. _________________ http://www.oldbluesound.com/about.htm

I have a copy of the movie, and also a lobby card.
Yes, the film sucks.
The bass player is Don Holiman. I sat in a couple nights with him at the Silver Dollar in Vegas, I think around '80. Or it could have been in '72 when I worked the Nashville Nevada club with Mike Franklin and Tommy Brooks (Holbrooks). The memory grows dim...
I've just learned that Don lives in Lebanon TN nowadays. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |
