| i dunno...pretty rare piece in great shape...but worthless by itself unless you had a trashed guitar with a good neck. this is the first production electric guitar ever offered...not a steel! |

That person has delusions of something or other. There are a few of those around, but ya never see one played.
The whole instrument may bring what the seller is asking, but except for a wall hanger it's pretty much a conversation piece. |

Ry Cooder plays a Spanish neck Electro.
I think it would be cool to have a nice neck made for it to be played Spanish, but the price is a little steep for me.

A complete one went for about $1800 a couple weeks ago. I think you're right Mike, make a new neck for it and it would be really cool. But yes, it is a little pricey for that .
I had a complete, original one about ten years ago. It was an amazing sounding guitar. The sustain was really hard to believe, so much so that you had to change your technique (I did anyway). You couldn't leave anything ringing, it would never stop. You couldn't be at all sloppy. |

The Ebay ad said "Or Make Offer"... This morning I offered him $600 and he countered with $1,000. I will pass on it.
I was going to make a 6 string fretless bass out of it.
Chris, I think a guy here on the forum makes reproduction chrome plates.
The scale length of 22.5" seems kinda short for a guitar, plus the neck joining at the 14th fret doesn't appeal to me. Also, it seems a 6 string would go out of tune pretty easily due to the bakelite.
At least as a fretless bass, pitch could be compensated. |

The plates look right to me. I looked at one in person yesterday. a friend of mine bought one without a neck and built a tenor neck for it ( believe it or not, it was originally a tenor guitar-talk about a rare bird..). He does beautiful work, it looks stock with a maple (painted/dyed black) neck, sounds pretty cool too. If I had the coin I'd buy this one and have him make me a neck for it.
Incidently, years ago I sold my original spanish to Michael Cord, he's very knowledgeable about these things.

I bought the body and (one piece old rosewood) neck off UK eBay for £26 and very quickly gave up trying to source original spares at any price near reasonable. So then.....
1. Spares box - Yamaha Humbucker (coil tapped), Fender knobs, arch top bridge, stainless steel to make string anchor, piece of toilet seat (VERY hard plastic, which is probably why it cracked in use but we won't go into that here) for the nut
2. Glazer - piece of Lexan
3. Mate - sheet of alloy, industrial drill & bandsaw, 3 on a plate 'Klusons'
4. Supro Supreme (one of mine) - photocopy of f/board
5. Geology dealer while on holiday for the white thing on the headstock (I forget its name)
Sounds excellent, low value so no issues on stage, looks ?? but unfinished as yet. My current electric lap of choice.

With the holiday season rapidly approaching the neck-less Rickenbacker Bakelite body makes for a beautiful seasonal serving dish.
Just simply remove the cover plates and fill the black cavities with your choice of mixed nuts, olives or festive holiday red and green candies!
And any leftovers can be kept fresh by simply re-covering the goodies with the decorative chrome plates!
