I'm building a 2x12 split system and I'm trying to come up with an alternative covering. Tolex is sorta old hat and I hate to pay the freight for carpeting (my local guys want a fortune for it). I checked on the spray on bed liner, but that's expensive, too. Has anybody out there come up with any new and ingenious covering material? Has anybody tried Naugahyde - I can get it at the local fabric store?
Thanks!! _________________ 2022 Brook Lyn, 2014 Martin 000-18, 2022 Ibanez GB-10, two homebrew Teles, Evans RE200 amp, understanding wife of 49 years. 'Steeless' at the moment |

Haugahyde doesn't hold up very well since it's a plastic cover on a cloth backing. The cover is easily scuffed and torn. |

If you want something that will last you are going to have to "pay the price" and get some type of Tolex or carpet. Some of the car audio places that do custom work will sell you carpeting and that will save having it shipped in (although the price may even be higher than buying from someplace such as www.partsexpress.com where I buy mine). |

I just bought some blue tolex this afternoon for a cabinet split I'm doing. I bought mine from this place which has a pretty good selection of coverings as well as hardware parts. http://www.speakerbuildersupply.com/servlet/StoreFront
This place I found seems to have very competitive prices.I ordered the tolex and had it shipped to Rick Johnson as he will actually build it for me and do the covering.
Rick uses this other site for buying most of his tolex www.mojotone.com which, I tried them first, but they did not carry the blue I wanted.
Good luck,

Look at your local Wal-Mart in automotive dept. They have automotive carpeting that may work, and not that expensive.

Jack - you're probably right. The place I used to get it here went out of business and the only other place in town wants about 3 times what it's worth.
Chuck - I deal with Mojo all the time - they seem like a good outfit - they deliver quick and have pretty fair prices. I just found a new place in Georgia called BLT Sound that I ordered my hardware from - we'll see how they do.
Bill - I'll check it out. Didn't know Wally World carried that sort of thing..
Thanks, guys!!

TCH Hardware (do a google search) has the gray and black carpet covering in both light and heavy weight . It is relatively cheap. |
