I don't get many opportunities to play ... and lately when I do ... I reach for my JB Frypan with its "variant" of the Potbelly Pickup that I installed this summer.

I've kept a few Dustpans with various pups ... as my personal guitars ...

But the JB with that pup ... well, its just too tasty ... and it has been the steel I reach for lately ...

Until now ...

I didn't want to mill out my Black Pearl ... to drop in a big unit ...

I don't have the time now ... and honestly, didn't want to screw up the black wrinkle paint job.

So I set out to create a "new" variant of my Potbelly ... that could be installed ... in the cavity I had made for the MRI pickup that was in it.

After some of mathematical calculations ... I came up with a completely new/novel idea ...

Some principles were borrowed from my Potbelly and my Fountain ...

But it's significally different ...

I'm very excited about it ... and am probably going to offer it up for retail sale ... in the spring/summer of '09 ...

As well as making it available to folks on my current "wait list" ... which I have been creeping through at a snail's pace lately ... Embarassed

Here it is ...

I'm gonna have to get the Hula Monster (Dave Giegerich) back over here ... to give it a-go ... Laughing

Maybe I'll have a "taste-testing" party for it ... after the Holiday season ... Mr. Green

What is the best choice of words, that would describe my response to your creation?

Eye Appeal? Elegant
Value? Priceless
Tone? Question Question Question Let's get some sound out on this baby.

Great looking job, Rick! This Black Pearl is a pearl. Cool

Aloha, Smile

Looks great, I'd love to give it a spin.

Man, that concentric knob set looks killer on that guitar. Nice touch.

Ahoy thar James ...

Me built this particular cast steel the summer that the movie ... Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl ... came out.

Arrr ... walked around for months talkin' like a pirate.

Belay that time-line Steve ... you'll have to come out again soon ... to verify that she is ...

Nigh uncatchable ...

Arrr ... and don't forget the grog ... Laughing

Ahoy Mike ...

Me thinks you'll get a chance to give her a-go ... at the Shenandoah Valley Hawaiian Steel Guitar Summit ... this spring ...

I figure I'd better have it ... before me next little "Crew Member" arrives ...

And I'm drownin' in a sea of smelly diapers ... Mr. Green

Thank's y'all ...

I'm so enamored with this pickup ... every time I go down to the basement to do a load of laundry ... I give it a-go ...

Fender Twin, Peavey Jazz Classic, 1930's Ricky amp, my newest 4 speaker "Microcube" RX ... doesn't matter ... it's wicked awesome ...

Gonna retrofit my Black Mamba (25.5" version of the Pearl) ... and my Boobpan (a double neck cast steel ... one 25.5" neck and one 22.5" neck) ... with this unit also.

Anyone who wants to give any or all of these a try ...

Come to the 2nd Shenandoah Valley Hawaiian Steel Guitar Summit ... May 15, 16 and 17

If you missed the last one ... here's your chance Laughing Laughing Laughing

Hey Rick,

If there is room for one more to stop by for a while and give that black pearl with the special pickup a try I would consider it an honor to be one of those who do. I'm sorry to say it's too early to tell if I could actually make it at this time.
As usual you have got my curiousity up. What are you going to call your latest pickup, and tell us about the Microcube RX with 4 speakers. Is that something new on the market?
Rick just keeps on coming up with new ideas. Keep up the good work and thanks for keeping us updated on your latest developements. Idea
