GREAT NEWS! HOT FLASH!!
Your chance to have the best of the best!
This is your chance to learn licks from the legend steel guitar pickers and hear some of the hottest new pickers coming onto the scene! This CD series will help your creative technique for new ideas, you’ll hear and see how other pickers play it!
What a concept… SGWM presents “Old Friends & New Faces” a Steel Guitar Collector Series set of CDs: ie: Vol. 1; Vol. 2; Vol. 3; etc. eventually becoming a uniquely matched box set.
Each volume will have 12 different steel players doing one song each. The CD’s will include an 8-page booklet featuring and promoting each steel player. These volumes will be followed by a book of tablature of the songs in that series for the benefit of the learning player. After the CD’s and tab are released we will be working on a series of follow-up rhythm tracks. I will let you know when these rhythm tracks become available.
So far the list for the “Old Friends & New Faces” Collector Series includes:
Robby Turner; Doug Jernigan;
Al Brisco; Joe Wright;
Norman Hamlet; Danny Hullihen;
Mike Perlowin; Chuck Lettes;
Don Curtis; Jim Cohen;
Herb Steiner; Butch Cornwell;
b0b Lee; Gerry “Dog” Walker;
Billy Phelps; “Buck” Grantham;
Bud Carter; Gary Thorson;
David Wright; Tommy Dodd;
Russ Wever; Terry Bethel;
“Scotty”; Jimmie Crawford;
Jeff Newman; Bobbe Seymour;
Tommy White; John Hughey;
Maurice Anderson and Herb Remington
to name a few. Herb also said he had a couple unreleased songs in the can that we could use for this project of himself and the great legend Jimmy Day.
This player list is by no means complete. I will be in contact with many more steelers for future volumes. If you would like me to add ‘your name’ to this player list please contact me.
How this concept came about:
While attending Scotty’s convention last month I had the opportunity to personally convey a new idea to many of our legend pickers. This concept would help promote steel guitar, the players and our magazine. I asked these players if they would donate one recorded song each for an album to help support our magazine and the steel guitar industry. Well guess what? ‘BINGO’!! Everyone overwhelmingly said yes!
Everyone wins! The player gets promotion, the steel guitar industry gets a shot in the arm, it gets more recognition. Also, the steel enthusiast gets to listen to great steel guitar music, and the learning steel player gets to learn from some of the best and our magazine gets more support. HOW ABOUT THIS IDEA!! Like I said… What a concept!
The “Old Friends & New Faces” price range per volume will be approximately:
CD $15.00 + shipping
Tab Book $12.00 + shipping
CD/Tab package $25.00 + shipping
Rhythm Tracks $12.00 + shipping
At this point I need to have a show of hands (E-Mails or Faxes) that you like this concept and would purchase these volumes as they become available. I am counting on your support to help launch this project. All I need is your word, ‘Send No Money’ just E-mail or Fax your name and address that you like and will partake in this concept. I need to know how many pieces of product to build the first time out of the chute.
Thanks for your time and interest,

Great idea, Russ!!! I'm proud to contribute to this recording as are all of the other steelers listed, and I think this will be a great thing for all steel guitarists to have, regardless of what level they are at.
Keep up the good work, Russ, and I'm happy to see you're still at it despite the many trials and tribulations you've been experiencing.

Russ,
Great idea, and a great opportunity for you to gain back some respect that may have been lost with the troubled SGWM issues. To do this, all you'd need to do is offer a "Credit" to those that have sent you $$$ for a subscription that SGWM has not forfilled (in whole or part). This way, you at least offer a compromise. What do you think?

Please re-read Russ's post.
The CD's are NOT ready to ship. In fact, they haven't even began to be recorded yet.
What Russ is asking here is for a "show of hands" to see how many would be interested in this. If the response is favorable enough, he will then proceed with the project. He's not asking for money, or for orders, just a "show of hands" to see if the project will be worth the time and expense.
Russ told me that all of the above listed players have confirmed that they will do a song or two on these CD's.

A show of hands only!! I have not given up on SGWM, why would I or should I? Anyone who has been with me for some time knows I've been up and down over the years but somehow I find a way to pull it through. Yes I need to save face and I'll make it up to all, I have no doubt. This CD idea can make a real impact and put the rag back onto solid ground! So far the responce has been great, thanks guys for the encouraging words! I'll keep ya posted.

Russ,
Could you answer my question? This is not a Bush/Gore debate. Its a great opportunity
for you to spend a few more keystrokes on your statement:"Yes I need to save face and I'll make it up to all, I have no doubt." I think it would serve you well to also get a show of hands on this topic too.
