I am somewhat of a nube. I've been lurking on the forum on and off for a year or two. I had a Fender Champion in the early 70's and a Fender psg made by ShoBud in the mid 70's. Then I moved into bluegrass, newgrass and later into gypsy jazz. Haven't had anything other than acoustics (guitar, mando, archtop, bass) until now. I looked all around for something to start into lap steel again that had quality and was American made and a good price. A tall order but I found what I wanted. Bob Allen custom builds a nice 8 string. I found him from Brads Page of Steel and his url is www.musonmt.com. I've had mine less than a week and have been very pleased with it. Bob is great to deal with and I think you can't go wrong for the $300-450 price range. This list is a fantastic resource. I spent the weekend working on the Leavitt tuning and ordered Mike Ihde's materials for this tuning.
Pictures of mine are at:

Rusty,
What is the scale length? Also, I got an error message when I went to the website.

Scale length on all my lap steels is 23.25". I just logged onto my web site ok. It's with One and one hosting. Maybe they were down at the time. If you still have a problem let me know and I'll contact them. Robert |
