I first played this DVD on my computer, great. Then I tried to play it on my regular DVD player and it wouldn't play. However I just put it in my "Playstation lll", hooked into my Sony Bravia, big screen TV and man it's just beautiful. Incredible detail and sound. I wonder if it will play on a Blu-ray DVD? Just thought that I would share this. I get a great look at David's finger action, and John's too. I'm sure that someone out there knows how this works and I hope they will share their expertise.

Someone better let David know that he has to make some NTSC DVD's for America.
Most DVD players play both PAL & NTSC...however some people have problems with it.

DVD Players can be opened up to play all regions.

DVDs differ from VHS as they are all formatted the same, there is just a tag indicationg the region. It is a single digit, but really who cares, the PAL, M-PAL and NTSC issues are really mute.

Steps to open the DVD player:

1. Anote the model number and make.

2. Go to Google and seach Unlock for all regions (model, manufacturer)

3. Follow instuctions.

There are some bogus posts on the Internet so you might have to wade thru a few.

Here is an example of how I opened my last one (anyone overseas knows this as US DVDs are all region "whatever"

On the remote press Menu + Enter

Press 0123

Then press Menu and Pause

Reset the DVD player and test the DVD.

So its the player then, not the actual DVD?

Matthew is correct about unlocking a DVD player to play multi region. I did make these DVD's NTFC so I am a bit confused about Charles DVD player not playing it but his PS 3 will? I used DVD +R's for the duplication and wonder whether it may be that. I do know that any PC will play them and the quality on a smaller PC screen is even better than a 50" LCD telly I think. Charles, let me know about the blue-ray player too.... I thought PS3 was blue-ray? I am glad you enjoyed it Charles, It really has produced the sound and video at a very high quality and I am pleased with it as was my first attempt at making a DVD.

PS3's do play blue-ray discs, but they will play standard DVDs too as well as just about any other media file a PC will play such as mpeg, avi etc.

David....it might be the fact that you used DVD R+ for this.DVD R+/- compatible would be my choice.They play everything.

David, I bought the Playstation lll in order to entice our smaller grandchildren to visit us. Then I found out that you can play Blu Ray DVDs on it. Your DVD shows up IMO, just as Blu Ray movies do. The visual and sound is incredible; the detail is fantastic. I get a great shot of your right hand action, which I've always wanted. My wife is not much of a psg fan, but she really enjoyed this. My only complaint is, it's not long enough. I hope that you do the rest in this format. The Forum is so great, especially when others share their knowledge, like in this thread.

Dave, I just got back from a local "Best Buy" store and it played just fine on an "Elite" Blu Ray DVD player. I went to the Big Screen Section and got a clerk to play it for me. Their sound system is better and louder than mine, so I relaxed in a soft chair and enjoyed myself. Several people stopped by and listened, one, a tall attractive blond asked, "wow, who is that"? And "man, that is great", and asked about Dave and the psg. She didn't know what a psg is, so I explained how the pedals and knee levers can change the tension on the strings, etc. One female employee was surprised that Dave and John are from England, she wished her dad in North Carolina was here to listen.

A question to the forumites....

I am thinking of making an instructional tuition DVD. What I am thinking about is putting 2 songs on it like Orange Blossom Special and perhaps Farewell Party and giving instruction on the runs, licks, and melodies in depth for both instrumentals with tips and tricks too. My idea also is to send the Tabs too with the DVD.

What do you all think. I have some time free now and don't know whether to work on this DVD or write more Tabs.

I'm for, all of the above. I want the tabs, but I'm very interested in any instruction that you produce. Cheers. Incidentally Dave, I've been to England many times and the girls there are soooo beautiful. Of course at my age it's a faint memory.

Dave, I think there is a real slot in the steel guitar world for DVD's with playing on them, as opposed to licks and segmented stuff. It's also nice seeing tunes played with just the steel on it as that's generally what we're here for! Keep up the fine work and the lovely playing.

All the head thought and paperwork prep is done for my first attempt at a tuitional DVD. Many thanks, Joe Wright for sending yours to me and giving me advice, tips and tricks on multi-screening. My approach will be dlightly different but I know it will be a great DVD if all my ideas get to work.

I am previewing some publicity pictures in a viewing 'theatre' tomorrow at a top London based photographic studio. I had the photo session 2 weeks ago. It's going to be about 3 to 4 weeks before my choices made can be collected. This is exiting stuff...Very high-tech digital photos.. I will keep you posted on DVD progress.

Also.. myself and big John Stannard have been recording tracks, and hopefully videos too over the Christmas period,.. I will try and give you a pre-listen to some of it when I work out how to upload a sample to this forum? I think the .mp3 has to be uploaded to an FTP site, or website and then linked to here with a hyperlink? If there is anyone out there could confirm this, it would be appreciated.

I better get to work now and get some soda pumps flowing ..
