I REALLY enjoyed it. I was made very welcome and opened the show on Saturday, and got another spot with a guy called STEPHEN HAMILTON on the Sunday too. We both met for the first time about 1/2 hour before I went on. He played a CORKY OWENS Rains, we decided to go on together and I think it went down well. All players were excellent and I watched most of all their sessions. It would be nice to see some pics and some other comments about the ISGA 2008 too. The band were just great and I would like to personally thank them for making me feel very comfortable on the stage. Its great to play with a live band as most of my work is with tracks these days.

Irish Steel Guitar Festival

We had a great weekend at Bettystown Court Hotel. The band, as usual, were outstanding, and all the steel players played their hearts out. Joe Wright had a standing ovation after his first set. Al Brisco gave a brilliant performance on Sat and Sunday playing tunes from his new CD, what a tone this man has. David Hartley gained a lot of new fans. His playing, his tone, and choice of material was excellent. "The Travelling Newburys" (Gerry Hogan, Derek Thurlby, and Dave Kirk)done a superb job as did our Irish hero, Richard Nelson, and not forgetting my ole buddie Ivan Mc Lernon, who had his own band with him. More vocals and great steel playing from "Country Harmony" featuring Stevie Hamilton on steel, who done a set with David Hartley on Sunday, Great performances from Donny Johnston,Hans De Jong, Lionel Wendling and Super Picker Mark Horn. Lionel had one of his students with him. His name is Jay, and this young man is playing steel guitar for only 2 years,WOW,what a picker, this guy is going places. I have some good photos of the show, but dont know how to post them. I will email them to Wolfgang at WBS Steel Guitars(By the way, he makes great steel guitars)and he will post them. Jim Cohen and Allan Thompson, we missed you. Looking forward to 2009.

Hi,

Once again, it was a pleasure to participate in The Irish Steel Guitar Festival, now being held in a nice hotel...the Bettystown Court Hotel.

As usual, the Irish hospitality was superb, plus it was great to see the representation from neighbouring countries.

Thanks for the nice comments...much appreciated.

A special Thanks to Frank & Joan Kennedy from Culleybacky for their fantastic hospitality in putting us up for one evening during our touring of the west & the north on our way to the festival.

Also, Frank supplied his Peavey Nashville 112 for myself & others to use on the show.

Best Wishes to all the committee for 2009.

Peter, Jani, Gary L,
I agree with all of you. Jani, you are the one they meant, and the choice is just, well, bang on the money. It is about time you get some more recognition for the fine work you are doing on both building and playing steel.

Peter, you have kept yourself in the shadows a bit too long and I agree with Jani that you should be up there on stage with all the great pickers. Maybe you and Jani could get together now and practice up for a duet for the next show maybe?

Folks, I want to re-post this tune by Peter so you might play it again and I am sure you'll agree with me that Peter has "that" sound.
