Years ago I had asked Bobby for some help on tunings to use on my Rick and he sent me three of his favorites, C-6, B-11th, and an interesting A-6 w/a skinny string on the bottom that he patterned after a tuning he got from Juaqin, along with some other information that you just can't find in the books. He is a very helpful and generous man.

He also sent me a photo of his beloved DC-16 wich is in pristine condition! He also has an original stand that he said he found in a pawn shop out on the road somewhere.

His guitar is the brown one, mine is the silver. I got it from Cope McDaniel who was a regular at the old Ryman. I believe he said he used it a lot with Tater, and some others on the Opry.

It was brown like Bobby's and had a keyhead full of holes on the back neck from various coat hanger type pulls wich I had to cold weld. The switch and plate was trashed and I replaced it with a trimmed down LeGrand plate and a Tele switch W/top hat knob. Head covers look black in the photo but are actually chrome. I painted it silver, stripped the fret boards and re-did them in black.

Blacks guitar is a much fancier version of DC-16

He must like those guitars. I saw him play a set of Hawaiian music at one of Jerry Byrd's Ho'olaule'a's and he had a teal colored version.

Ron,

Seems like I remember a picture in some magazine of him with that steel. He probably keeps a beater for the road.
