Hi all. I'm posting pics here of an old Gibson Console Grand for sale, serial #5-6190. Anybody know what year this is? It looks to be all original but the finish is literally about to peel off (see pic of the logo). Is this a good one? What kind of pickups are those? What's it worth in this condition?

I don't know what it's worth, but; it l©©ks like a nice guitar! Sound is probably the most important factor for this one!

Is that at a guitar center? What does that price tag say( looks like $600)? If I were you I would stay away from this one. It looks like it spent a lot of time near water. Hence all of the delamination. I would not pay more than $100-200 for it as it looks like a project. Have patience and check craigs list often. Here are a couple, not sure how close they are to you.....

Also remember be sure to try to negotiate on the prices!!!

All this however is just one opinion and I am not an expert. I am sure other more well versed guys will chime in!! With the economy and the age of the original owners (no offense to any one please) these steels are coming out of the woodwork in the last couple years.

Pickups seem to be P90. This model is not the most researched. You must not give more than 300$ or 400$ for this guitar.

Is this a good one?

Based on the poor photographs, it looks like it's in poor condition. Whether it sounds good when played and is worth trying to fix up is impossible to say without actually being with the guitar.

Gibson steel guitar pickups.

Others have already chimed in with their estimates. It appears to be in very poor condition, so it's worth much less than any "blue book" value would be for a similar instrument in excellent condition.

Gruhn Guitars has had that guitar for a while, if I remember correctly. They charge top dollar for their instruments and frequently get it, because they tend to carry excellent condition items.

I would have to see much better photos of the guitar in question before I could offer any further guesses as to value.

Jim K. is right. That type of lacquer checking is indicative of water damage. Could be some sort of flood damage at some time. That is way more than just light normal lacquer crazing/checking.

Watch out if you buy it. I would take the pickups out and look in all the routed cavities to see what the deal is.
