I've used many speakers over the years and like many others the JBL K-130's are my favorite. I received my first Telonics 12 inch 8 ohm speaker and found the volume with the Telonics is much higher. Louder than any other speaker I've used with the same setup. I even measuresd the ohms to make sure it was an 8 ohm.
The Telonics sounds amazing and the bass response is more than the JBL's. Anyone else notice the difference in volume?
Thanks,
Dave

Yes Dave, I switched a JBL K130 out of my Webb for the Telonics 15" speaker and found the same thing. Great sounding speaker. |

I use a telonics 15" speaker I my milkman half and half and it sounds acceptable for live playing. It can handle tons of power and does the job. I have jbl d120s and d130's in the rest of my amps. The telonics is a decent speaker and it is light but is in no way at the level of fidelity of a real jbl. It's not even close. I have players come over and we A/B them and the telonics does just not cut it ever with anybody in comparison with a alnico JBL. They sound pretty good but no shimmer or growl. This can not be recreated with amp eq settings. At best an eq can cut out some frequencies in order to accentuate others. But an eq cannot effectly create a sound that is not there.
If you want a light neo speaker that sounds like a JBL the search is still on. The closest I have found were the neo speakers TC Furlong's powered cabinets. _________________ Bob |

Tone is very subjective and we all have our preference regarding steels, amps, speakers, etc. I wasn't asking about opinions on Telonics tone vs. JBL Alnico speakers or any other brand. I'm very capable of deciding which I prefer regarding all of the above!
Bob, I'm glad you love your JBL's as I do. But this wasn't a post asking for anyone to bash another maker's speaker or a debate as to which is better, etc. Simply asking if anyone noticed an increase in volume using the Telonics speakers and maybe an explanation as to why.

This is the type of response I was looking for or any "positive" comments. |

I have to disagree with the basic premise that the telonics speakers are like jbls at all.
They are good speakers and I am happy with the one I use but it us a very different speaker.
A JBL D130 has a dip in the mids which gives it a hollow type sound. It brings out the highs and twang while keep a strong and focused low end. The telonics 15 has an even mid range which I actually prefer. The 12's are another story. I love my JBL 12's but found the telonics 12's to be useless.
I am interested in checking out the TT speakers. It seems they have a very distinctive voice that might be pretty cool..
I also think those regular ceramic magnet Jupiter speakers that come stock in milkman amps sound fantastic. Not to heavy and none of the BS about how they sound like JBLs. _________________ Bob |

David, Sorry for my rant ....
In answer to your question I found no difference in volume with the 15's and that JBL 12's where a bit louder than the telonics 12's. _________________ Bob |
