OK - -so I installed (in a very unusual fashion) a humbucker pickup in a reso guitar spider and the tone/volume is great ... however I am getting some hum like one would with a single coil pickup.

What am I doing wrong?

The hum diminishes a bit when I touch the outer sleeve of the output jack (ground) and it gets a lot quieter when I touch both both the output jack ground and the reso spider together. The pickup is not electrically secured to the spider (only touching via a screw thought the plastic pickup mount) so this is weird that it should respond in this way.

Obviously some sort of grounding issue but I'm not sure where to or how to fix.

Is this a shielding issue? copper foil needed, etc?

I thought I'd add the solution to the problem in case anyone else has this issue in the future.

I added a ground wire from the spider bridge tension screw to the ground of the output jack. Hum is now negligible.

I should've figured as much. I think the spider and cone were acting like a big antenna.
