Slave Girl

Post by Rich Taylor »

Does anybody know how the beginning of the Santo and Johnny song"Slave" Girl is played? I've tried several variations but it doesn't sound quite right. Thanks - Rich

Rich,

At the very beginning, I'm playing it in A6 tuning, alternating palm harmonics (24th fret) and open strings with the bar at the 12th fret. Move up/repeat as needed.

Bruce - Thanks for the reply , I pressume you are just playing strings 1,2 and 3. Are you still playing the open strings when you do the fret move up or do you leave it out. Thanks for the info - Rich

Rich,

Yes, I am still playing the open strings when I move up a fret.

Correction on the harmonics: Actually, I've got my little finger tucked into my palm and I am using the top of my little finger, not my palm for the harmonics. There is some muting that's going on also. Obviously, there is a move up to fret 25 when the bar is on fret 13.

I'm using strings 1 & 2.

It took me a while to figure out how to get closer to Santo's intro. So, our 'Exotic Moods...' CD does not have me playing this bit.

Have fun,
