I would welcome any advice on a multitrack recorder which has effects, drum patterns and a CD burner.
Initially I want to use it for practise and eventually I may want to record band demos.
My knowledge of home recording is nil,do I need a recorder with a CD burner? or can I transfer the recording to the P.C. for burning?
I certainly do not want a "top of the range" item
Best regards

Billy, purpose is everything.
Recording for small home projects is quite different than a band demo. Most small inexpensive 4 track recorders allow for stereo ( two tracks at a time ) with minimal effects. Recording a band demo may require a minimum or 4 channels ( drums) at at a time and you may need as many as 12 or 16 total( or more ) tracks for a demo project.
If you are new to recording with a workstation, I would suggest getting a small unit, Boss or Fostex and go from there, think small. Once you are comfortable with the process then go larger. Boss and Fostex have great recorders under $500...Just make sure the units have effects, there are some low end Tascam units without effects that appear great at first.
good luck
