This may have been mentioned before... Not the only, and perhaps not the best, version of Mercury Blues by Mr Dave on YouTube, but worth checking out purely and simply because the director and cameraman for once find it interesting to hold on a shot of a musicians hands for (relatively) long periods of time...

David's the bomb. All the versions up there are interesting and different. I think I'm with Steve on the version with "Your Old Lady" from måndagsbörsen in November of '81, which would have been pretty close to the time that the original El Rayo X record came out. But this one from the Roxy in D.C. in '88 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAbbgSKUZB4 - is also great. When he brings his solo down in the middle, it evokes the ghosts of Robert Nighthawk and Earl Hooker for me, and that's as good as slide/lap gets to me.
He was here at the State Theatre last year, just tore it up - all acoustic. His oud playing was just out there, I'm still looking for an electric one. |

Yeah, I remember hearing DL on a recording back in the early 80's, and being blown away. Incredible touch and TONE!
