The SSSGC welcomed three new members Sunday, September 14th.
Leon Pollick, Rogers, AR: Leon has played fiddle for 60 years. He also plays guitar, mandolin, banjo and dolbro. He credits his grandfather for inspiring him to become a musician. His melting fiddle is the perfect accompaniment to steels.
Leroy Hittson, Fayetteville, AR: Leroy plays drums and mandolin and does vocals. He grew up in a family where music was a heritage enjoyed by all. It became a family tradition that is carried on today by Leroy and the Hittson Brothers Band.
Charlie Barnett, Bella Vista, AR: Charlie has been a musician for 35 years. He plays pedal steel, banjo, guitar and dolbro. In the eighties, he played professionally for the renown Ozark Mountain Hoedown in Eureka Springs, AR. He played with the Hoedown for ten years.
Members who attended who have not been featured on this forum:
Virgil Pittman, West Siloam Springs, OK: A member since 1998, Virgil has played pedal steel for 30 years. Local folks enjoy hearing his steel when he plays with Amarillo Rose Band. He owns Pittman’s Music in West Siloam Springs – open Tuesday through Saturday. He is treasurer of the SSSGC.
David Starr, Colcord, OK: David has been a charter member of the SSSGC for 14 years. He’s played pedal steel for about that long. He also plays drums, harmonica, blues harp and guitar, and does vocals. He was inspired by Leon McAuliffe to be the talented musician he is today.
