Talk about relaxing the wardrobe rules on the Opry! Image if she had made any quick moves? I'm assuming Pete Fisher would say, Hey! you want country? she uses steel guitar!

Theresa, I love it that Jessica is now a country singer. The first time I heard "Come On Over", it really amazed me because it was a Jessica Simpson song with a lot of steel guitar. Jessica's amazing in country music.

This will definately help sway some of the younger generation into thinking country is cool!

i didn't hate it....it seemed that the steel player was really working overly hard to play that one lick over and over. maybe it was performance drama and showmanship...like sitting low and far away from the steel so his arms could flex more and look cool...kinda like guitar players hanging their guitars really low and jumping up and down.

70's/80's Rock and Roll. It appears that country music has relocated from Nashville to Texas...Justin Trevino, Amber Digby, Jake Hooker, etc... I used to tolerate a lot of static on 650AM just to hear Weldon, Leon, Joe Edwards, Jimmy Capps, etc... now I have no interest at all in what the Opry has evolved to. My lack of approval means nothing to the Opry, and it shouldn't, but they have certainly made a huge change in my life. I'm just thankful I was around to enjoy it while it was the country that I enjoy so much.
"Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes???" It ain't happening that I can see!

I agree with you Rick..
She is certainly no Loretta Lynn or Kitty Wells.
Having a steel doesn't make it country. Only one word for this fiasco....PITYFUL

Oh, she may be as good as Loretta or Kitty. I don't know, it's this style of music being promoted as country that I have a problem with. If this was all there is to play, I'd auction all my instruments off to the higest bidder and call it quits.
I won't go to the "no talent, etc..." comments, because I believe these guys probably have as much talent and ability as my idols. I just put this music in the "more power to them, and I wish you the best, but I don't want to hear it" category.

Maybe a new category for the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame: "Acrobatic Steel Playing"
Steel builders: Maybe you should captialize on this and offer rockers as an option to legs on your steels. Then when one gets too old and feable and retires, they can just remove the steel frame and mount the seat in it's place. Wola...a rocking chair and no additional investment.

That award would go to Rusty Young.

I missed Loretta's singing. How did she do? I hear not to good.
Hat's off to Jessica, she seems sincere and I like her.
I applaud her for having steel and he did a fine job!

I agree with Brother Rick Campbell on the song. Weak, 80's-style pop-rock. But Jessica is a very talented singer, the band sounded tight and well-rehearsed (and probably well-paid), and Jess ain't a lot of trouble to look at.

Does anyone know who was playing steel for Jessica? It's so good to see young players.

Could've been Jay Jackson. He plays a Sho-Bud Pro I.

That really sucked. Just when I think the commercial country industry has hit rock bottom, it gets worse.
All that aside, how can I audition for the gig?

Not at all unpleasant. Sounds a lot like some of the pop stuff she has done in the past but with country instrumentation. And I''m kinda partial to the blonde backup singer myself.

I've heard much worse recently...she's one of the better "new" country artists to come along. Very commercial, very much in line with the rest of the country music today.

Now if it would of only been possible for her to have used Jerry Garcia on steel half the forum would probably die of apoplexy due to outrage

I liked Jessica much better in her acne commercials.
