This looks like an interesting CD. Has anyone here heard it yet?

Steve Dawson's Telescope is a shimmering, staggering example of pushing the boundaries and in the process he shatters a preconceived notion of what a pedal steel should do.

Some very different stuff, kinda Greg Leisz meets Susan Alcorn meets Dave Ristrim! Good "movie mood" music.

I'm not sure that Mr Dawson pushes the boundaries. What he has done is record a non-country album, which I am sure the reviewer is referring to.

Steve plays OK, but it is 'safe' playing - nothing too adventurous technically. However, it is great to hear something different to the mainstream. Reminds me of material that I have heard from B J Cole in the past.

I just got the album and I for one think it's great. The production is very original and well done, and I think that Dawson's playing is quite tasteful. I'm not good enough a player to have a judgement on how technical or not it is, but it's sure more than I can do.

I'll say this: it's refreshing to have a steel album that isn't wall to wall samples and synth arrangements. He's got great musicians playing real instruments on the album. Very organic sounding. Highly recommended.
