The Flamingos "I Only Have Eyes for You."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTkcu4GVRe8

"The Flamingos formed in 1952 in Chicago, where they sang in a church choir. Somewhat uniquely, the congregation to which founding members Jake Carey, Zeke Carey, Paul Wilson and Johnny Carter belonged was the black Jewish Church of God and Saints of Christ. Having mastered the minor-key melodies of Jewish hymns, they retained this influence when they began singing pop and R&B. " http://www.rockhall.com/inductee/the-flamingos

Having seen `American Graffiti`, I bought the soundtrack album. This version of the song has been the definitive one for me ever since. I was sixteen, going on seventeen and was in Edinburgh on a telecoms course. Some of us decided to go and see The Exorcist, but it was sold out and we settled for Am-Graff. I'm glad we did! It kind of took me back to where I'd never been...?..If that makes sense.
I am still a fan of this style of music.

Arch.

Arch,

I've always loved their version, including the production. I remember hearing it on the radio when I was about 9 years old and being surprised when my mother told me it had been a big song when she was young.

I'm also amazed at how good the recent line-up does with this song.

And I had no idea that there was a black Judaic church, much less that it influenced doo-wop.

youtube has a great Alex Harvey cut with his guitarist miming the mime Marcel Marceau. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FG6aLs8zzrs
Sure too bad Alex left so soon.

I've attended many concerts over the years; The Who, The Stones, Traffic, etc. The best was the S.A.H.B.
They new how to put on a show.

Arch.
