The Song is Love Spreads by The Stone Roses. The Guitar sound is incredible. Want to know if it's possible to dupliate ona lap steel.

He's playing bottleneck slide in open-D, shifting back and forth between sliding and fretting. You should be able to come pretty close to that sound on a lap steel.

When you are listening to recordings, there are so many variables as to how the sound was acheived. Mic and mic placement, cabinet/amp, gadgets, guitar EQ, pickups, guitar tuning (sounds like he is tuned down to D), console EQ etc etc.

You will need one of those gadgets that gives you dozens of different amp sounds and the ability to tweak them. A POD or a GT6 or something like that might get you the pontential to dial in somethng close. That is about what you can hope for is just close. Good luck.

Wink

On Poet On The Radio I used the Asher EH custom (yup,- P90 style pickups) tuned to open-D through a 1st generation POD set to a clean Fender 'Blackface' emulation. The overdrive on the clip on Asher's website is a Fulltone FullDrive2 in front of the POD, while I used a Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde overdrive on the version that ended up on the CD.

Wow, full disclosure! Thanks!

Blackface/tweed, my ears ain't quite that good any more! My personal preference is BF. A Pro Reverb to be exact. A bit loud to record with however. I've got to modernize a bit and get an emulation box of some sort and try some direct recording.

Best,

Rich

Well, I suppose it can be discussed how "blackface" the Blackface setting is, especially on that old 1st generation POD. It's just the setting I found to be most useful in general, and playing around with various overdrives in front (even just to warm up clean sounds) can make a huge difference..
So don't despair, I'm sure your ears are perfectly okay! Cool
