Tropical Storm Fay

The rain bands have started and I'm about 65 miles north of Tampa (and about 20 miles inland from the Gulf).

We just got an outer band shower from Fay.

I got our emergency generator checked out this morning.

Jack,

Hope that generator will provide enough amps to power a Nashville 400, or at least a 112. Forget the lights, fridge, microwave, etc........you can do without all that stuff.

Hi Jack,

I have a son in Miami. He says no problems so
far in phone conversation today.

How much do you think Miami may be affected
before this is over :?:

Good luck to you and yours.

Roy

As of right now, looks like Miami will be just fine. Here's the 11:00 PM track from the National Hurricane Center.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphic ... y#contents

Keep in mind that the black line is the center of the storm, and the bad weather can extent out considerable distances from the center. Of course, the black line is subject to change, so we have to keep a close watch.

I'm live just W of where the black line is presently (about 30 miles E of Tampa). The track appears to be about 40-50 miles E of me right now, if it doesn't change before daylight. Looks like Jack, and probably me, will be OK except for outer rain bands. Tornado activity is often seen in rain bands associated with these storms.

There was a tornado about 2 blocks from here and the power went out for about 5 seconds.
Other than that, it's just been a lot of rain - not necessarily a bad thing . .

Just the one outer band of rain yesterday so far. Looks like today and tonight could be better chance for rain (we need the rain from a couple of Hurricanes to build the aquifer and lakes back up).

Yeah, the generator can power my Nashville 112 and then instead of the old "Singing in the Rain", I'll be "picking in the rain"

Hey Jack, better get some gas for the generator. That storm might be making a loop and heading back across the state and into the gulf. I've been right on the edge of the rainy area all day long, only a short period of light misty rain is all we got. S of Lakeland is wet, N of town is dry.

Hi Jack:

I have a place in Seminole that I spend the winter at and I checked in with some friends and they said we dodged a bullet. Whew!!!I look forward to meeting you sometime in the future.

Len, they were originally predicting the path would come up the west coast and come ashore around Sarasota/Bradenton area. Pinellas county even had a mobile home and low area evacuation, but it turned and came in way south and then went northeast.

I got about an inch of rain total from about 4 or 5 outer bands, in Inverness. Probably more than the metro Tampa/St Pete area got.

You'll have to get up to one of club jams. It's probably an hour and a half from Seminole. Bernie Kelly lives in Largo (near 112th and Walsingham) and he comes up once in a while, maybe I can get you two to come up together some time.

I spent over 3000.00 about two years ago on Generator that goes on when power goes off.I guess its wired into the home circuitry and all I know is that it works....After a few small storms and probably some drunk knocked out a pole last year it worked...But so far and thank God Fay bypassed us without incident and the key word is so far....Looks like it's going to make a sharp left turn once it get into the Atlantic...From there on from Georgia down to Tampa Bay it's all up in the air...Only they are saying it could re-enter land this time as a Hurricane...OH well not much we can do but be prepared this is Florida.. 8)

I have lived in Florida for 33 years. I have had to go to a shelter one time. Assuming an average of three possible hurricanes each year, that means I have had to go to a shelter in 1% of the potential hurricanes since I moved here. That's pretty good odds that I'll be OK.

Another point is that I have been told that I have a greater chance of dying in a hurricane than winning the lottery. Since I have never won the lottery, doesn't that mean that I won't die in a hurricane?

All we're getting in Zephyrhills is light rain once in a while. If it gets too wet where you guys are, come on down and we'll jam all day and night. Larry

I'm 12 miles west of Jack and all we got was few sprinkles. Been lucky since we've been in Florida so far. They've either gone above or below our county on the Gulf Coast.

I'm getting some wind and rain now from the 3rd "incarnation" of Fay, since it has moved back on land and (hopefully) heading Northwest and "outta" here. There is a flood watch for our county (Citrus Co).

I'm getting plenty of rain and strong gust of wind this morning. We have a flood warning in Citrus county until 6 pm this evening.

Don, a little over 3" since last evening, so far.

And, I just looked again and it's 4 inches now and we are in one of the heavy rain bands.

Reminds me of the Johnny Cash song about "How high's the water momma"

Looks like my pool is full  Plenty of rain and wind and they are saying we will get more until Sunday and stronger winds once it hits the gulf....But as of yet it's tropical and our lakes and ponds have plenty of room to recieve it...Up the road to Homosassa they have a bigger problem as the water is rising..The Rivers are near above flood stage there and in Hernando the Wittolocoochie (Spelled right??)River is high and folks there are sand bagging...I only do that in golf. ..Hope you guys are all high and dry..

I was in Columbus, Oh all week, but my wife said just heavy rain. The pool overflowed a bit. Last night we hit a few bumps just north of Tampa. All around a pretty lucky week for me and mine.
