I got an email from one of the greatest steel guitarist in the world. I have heard many of his recordings including a Gospel project he did. I decided to do a Gospel song using my 12 string guitar with extended Leavitt tuning. I respect his privacy and thank him for the inspiration to do this. All I can say is that if he ever strings up a 12 string guitar with the Leavitt tuning I can only imagine what he would do.
The song is the beautiful "Sweet Hour Of Prayer".
Variation one is open string harmonics. Back pickup.
Variation two is in the style of the C6 neck. Front Pickup
Variation three is in the style of the E9 neck. Back pickup, new key.
Variation four, both pickups....this is a good one with a lot of fun in it. The bass of the Leavitt tuning has always been a drawback to some. I played this section starting as a sort of boogie woogie thing staying down low in the bass and just went from there. At the end of this section the song comes back down and ends.
The tuning I use on my 12 string is the Leavitt tuning transposed down a step and a half. This give the upper strings of the guitar a bit more body and the timbre of the low end is enhanced also.
The tuning from low to high is:
F Bb Db E G A B C D E F Gb
Please let me know what you think of it. Always encouraging.

Bill,
Very nice and most innovative as always.
As I listen I think of players like
Julian Tharpe and Bill Stafford and that's
pretty HIGH company.

Hi Bill,
I am returning to steel (My first instrument) after about 30+ years away playing various other sets of strings. This tune is incredibly motivating. (I either have to be motivated or cut off my hands one or the other!) : -\
Is this played on the Marlen that you mentioned in another post?
A retired, cabinet-maker Pardner of mine is gonna' build me a 12 string non-pedal. I'm buying the material and providing "Supervision"! ; -}
What do you think - lap or console? He can build literally anything!
Thanks so much for all of the great music and education you have provide to me (and a lot of others I am sure).
