Good News!!
The First Annual Sacred Steel Convention will be held at Rollins College, Winter Park (a very nice section of Orlando), FL on March 31 and April 1, 2000. Within the next few days I'll be working up a flyer and press release for circulation by Email. Meanwhile, here's the bulk of the info.
Friday, March 31 - 5:00 pm, Welcome and registration. Slide show: A Brief History and Who's Who of the House of God Steel Guitar Tradition. Tribute to pioneers Willie Eason and Henry Nelson, including performances by Darick Campbell and Nelson's son and Eason's nephew, Aubrey Ghent. Jamming until 11:00 pm.
Saturday, April 1 - 9:00 am, doors open, registration. 10 am - 12 noon, technique workshops with Ted Beard, Chuck Campbell and Robert Randolph (!!). 1-5 pm, Performance Showcases by various sacred steelers. 8:00-11:00 pm, concert featuring the Campbell Bros., Aubrey Ghent, Calvin Cooke, Robert Randolph, Willie Eason and others including top vocalists (the exact line-up is still being worked out).
Admission:
Fri only - $5
Sat Daytime - $10
Sat Concert - $12
Sat daytime and concert - $20
Everything, both days - $25
All events will be held in the beautiful 315-seat Bush Science Center Auditorium, Rollins College, 1000 Holt Avenue, Winter Park. This non-profit event is produced by WPRK Public Radio and the Civic Minded Five.
